New commit

wow.. 3 Jucos so far. You would think they don't feel confident in the players they currently have.

Plan A) Rag on program for not recognizing holes in depth chart and aggressively recruiting JUCO's with an ability to have an immediate impact. Use it as evidence of incompetence of current staff and the further decline of the program as a whole.

Plan B) Rag on program for not bringing in enough talent and having to resort to JUCO players. Use it as evidence of incompetence of current staff and the further decline of the program as a whole.

He has 3 years. I'm guessing they RS him to learn Iowa's complicated defensive scheme for a year being he played LB in JUCO and Iowa wants him DE.

yeah, who knows. I bet they consider him someone who can make the 2 deeps next year. Ferentz is on record as saying if they go juco they do so with the expectation of immediate contribution.

Lol at hawkeyereport screwing up.. They are the only ones that got it right. They are way more accurate than the other sites.

This is why I put no credibility in anything Josh Newberg reports, always wanting to make a story or news. Good luck, hope he commits for you.

Blair Sanderson--JUCO DE Robert Caldwell has backed off making a decision for now, not yet committed to #Iowa according to his coaches.

That doesn't sound good for Iowa. If he wanted to play for Iowa why change mind all of a sudden?

This DL recruiting is a mess. If Iowa doesn't have a DL coach or DC to recruit these kids then this is hurting recruiting obviously.

Well the dude got excited, said he committed, then backed off and said he wanted to wait a few days. Looks like a knee jerk reaction and he wants to think it over after a visit.

not to start a ***** war or anything, but it probably will.
But quoting ank... is this a sign of a healthy program? Jucos?

Depends. If Iowa signs 10 Juco players, that's not a good sign. 3 out of 25 is pretty insignificant though.

It's generally not a good idea to try and build your program that way though. I've only seen one man do it successfully, and that school is a joke academically (KSU, Bill Snyder)

How is the DL recruiting a mess?
3 Commits
-Johnson DT 4 Star
-Ekakitie DE 4 Star
-Ott DE 3 Star
-Venckus DE 2-3Star

2 more visiting this weekend....
-Willie Henry DT 3 Star
-Terrell Jackson DT 3 Star (who was supposed to visit Mich. State and now visiting the Hawks)
- Robert Caldwell - Semi Committed earlier today with 3 yrs. left.

And Curry still deciding --- looks to be Nebby though

From past years, I wouldn't say recruiting is hurting at all. This is potentially a great class for the Hawks for DL. If kids are still coming into visit - I wouldn't say the Hawks are hurting because they haven't named a DC yet. I do agree it could help but it sure hasn't hurt with the visits scheduled and the commits so far.

you sign jucos when you need immediate help. the DL specifically needs immediate help - for one reason or another - injuries to leaving school - there has been a lot of attrition on the dl. they were trying to sign two of these guys from this juco for the dl. one went to ASU.
