I guess I thought people thought that both Kozan and OConner were tackles but people thought that Diamond would have to play guard but I could be wrong. FWIW ESPN has Diamond listed as a tackle and Kozan listed as a guard so maybe you're right on that front. O'Connor is listed as a tackle prospect.

I'm pretty sure we don't recruit specific OLine positions, at least out of HS. We might project someone as a futre tackle or guard, but if the right 4 guys were all guards I don't think the staff would feel a need to rush out and get guy just because he's projected at tackle. We just get the best Oline guys we can get.

i agree with you Duff. I had just heard that Kozan was offered by coaches as a guard. can't remember where I read that. However, Iowa likes to start guys as guards for experience then move them outside. See Bulaga. A lot of it depends on athleticism and footwork.

Rivals just updated his page. Solid 3* with a 5.6 rating. Not too shabby at all considering his pot luck of FCS offers he had.

Iowa likes the kid as a center or guard. Earlier in the recruiting, they wanted a center, but the few candidates committed elsewhere. Brohm? was the last one they had a shot at, but he recommitted to Missouri I think.

I think the concern in high school was that he came from a small school and was his competition good enough to access his skills. He plays at JUCO and shows talent. Plus, Iowa has been a little undersized at center in the past and he should fix that.

Another plus-great student, think he is looking to Engineering as a major. Strong grades. And since centers make line calls, good to have a smart center.

Finally-Who was the running back he was clearing the way for, something like #27. Guy named Rodney Coe. Wow, what a load. Hope to see him in the black and gold soon.

Iowa Western is a JUCO that is putting out good talent and a good place to establish a relationship with the coaching staff.

Is there any way this guy ends up playing defensive tackle? He looks like he has a motor and he likes to hit people. Gotta go where the need is.

..not that it matters, but does anyone know the story of why he decided on the JUCO route to begin with?

^Small school, no big offers.

So, because he would have qualified (Or did qualify) but just simply chose the JUCO route on his own, he isn't tied down by the restriction of actually getting his Associates before he can move onto a DI program?

Welcome aboard, hopefully that mean streak everyone keeps talking about continues once you get here. On the field ofcourse.

Yes. But it is smart money for most to go to a CC and get a degree first. That way all the credits taken at the CC will transfer.

Small school kid who was overlooked...he mentioned in the HawkeyeInsider article that he knew he'd probably have to take the JC route and was ready to work for it...and you know how Kirk and Co. LOVE guys like that...sounds like another Yanda type...and no, not directly comparing the 2. Just saying he sounds like he has that work ethic and chip on his shoulder.

Some of the above posters are correct, the reason he went juco was he was coming from a small school. He is a smart kid and did not play center until he got to Iowa Western. I think he will represent the Hawkeyes well on and off the field.

Yeah, doesn't sound like the type to pull a Heiar.

Heiar could probably be any Hawk, including a current NFL OG who destroyed a clown a few years back.......i'm guessing plenty of hawks/football players drink and drive - Heiar unfortunately found out the hard way that it is a monumental bad idea.
