Just got word that Iowa Western CC center Eric Simmons has committed to #Iowa.

He looks like the angry sumo center to me. Thats good!
Moves his feet well and keeps finding guys to block. Many plays he was chipping AND get his assignment. IMO this signals that KF likes what he has been getting from Blythe where he is at and has changed plans for him.

So Simmons can redshirt, then compete to start at center in 2013-14? I agree that if we can keep Jordan Walsh and Blythe at guard, with Simmons at center, it could be a very solid inside group.

Marshal Yanda will forever serve as an example of juco linemen that can play at Iowa and beyond.

Yeah, he's got 4 years to play 3.. a lot of time to work with there.

Good pickup. I don't think this is a reflection on the uncommitted tackles either. You don't sign a center as a fall back recruit for a tackle.

No I think it is a sign for the guards. Not sure if Kozan or OConnor were guards or tackles. I think they could play both, but if Iowa had them slated at guard, which is what you hear Kozan referred to as, then maybe it's a case of this. However, I still have high hopes for Kozan.

I guess I thought people thought that both Kozan and OConner were tackles but people thought that Diamond would have to play guard but I could be wrong. FWIW ESPN has Diamond listed as a tackle and Kozan listed as a guard so maybe you're right on that front. O'Connor is listed as a tackle prospect.

I'm pretty sure we don't recruit specific OLine positions, at least out of HS. We might project someone as a futre tackle or guard, but if the right 4 guys were all guards I don't think the staff would feel a need to rush out and get guy just because he's projected at tackle. We just get the best Oline guys we can get.
