New Charges Against Stephen

According to the Dubuque Telegraph Herald.

Five counts of sexual exploitation.

One count of possessing child pornography.

Photos and videos found on a hard drive.

Allegations that from 2010-2013 he persuaded minors to"take matters into their own hands" for the purpose of making images. It is unclear at this time if these individuals were his own players.

This supercedes and adds to previous charges.

These things always get bigger and bigger. The AP article is a bit more explicit:

https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/article214058344.html

"...It alleges Stephen persuaded the minors to masturbate for the purpose of making images of them between 2010 and 2013. It's unclear whether the alleged victims were Stephen's players.

You cannot tell me that other adults had no idea about this. No way no way no way.

The desire to help your kids become stars....

No way some parents didn't know more about Nassar.

The issue is that you complain and there are repercussions.

No way some Barnstormer officials didn't have some idea.

As I mentioned before, these guys don't just do a little bit and I knew it would grow. More likely to become public.

Unreal... Just disgusting. If I were a parent I'd have pretty much no trust in handing off access to my kid to any 'coach' that'd have any kind of ability to have one on one time with them. Pretty much in todays world I'd tell my kid look if you want to be apart of any activity I'll have to be able to be there. No church sleepovers or weekend tournaments out of state without me or mom. Just no chance. I just don't trust people. Which is sad because it's not the environment I was raised in. I got to do a lot of fun things as a kid and never had a sniff of anything bad like this happening. But to try putting myself in those parents shoes of those boys now.... There's only a few ways to prevent it. Don't give them access to your kid or be there with them every second you can...

Few things in life hurt more than betrayed trust. People like Stephen, allowed to allegedly commit sick acts of exploitation, force the rest of to dumb our lives down to the lowest common denominator. I would not let these cowards dictate how we live our lives but would not force my opinion on the next person. My youngest plays AAU, my daughter did about five years ago, and I once again would like to take this opportunity to send my appreciation to the ones who are doing it for the right reasons. It's not easy, financially or the time commitment involved.

It's a tough tough thing to try and navigate now. How well do we know these people? I've heard locally where I'm at of a guy that was a child molester that found his way into being a nursery director at a small church... With it being summertime how many folks let their kids go to the local pool unsupervised? This world is in a pretty sick place. For those that choose to find access to children for less than noble means it's pretty easy.
I grew up in the country and never knew how to lock our doors. Left my keys in my pickup when I got of that age. Nowadays.... I have no clue who my neighbors even really are. Or a lot of the people in which I come into contact with on a daily basis. To trust your kid to someone in almost any capacity is rolling the dice now.

Yes. Who'd of thunk that John Gacy was a clown who entertained at young boy's birthday parties. Or that the worst schoolteachers could physically abuse or do perverse things to children. Or that my (then) twelve year old would try out for an AAU basketball team coached by an alledged sexual exploiter. Or that you would need badges and passcodes just to get into your workplace everyday. Or get treated like a herd of sheep at the airport. Once again I'm not got to let these cowards stop me from living my life. But caution is always on the back burner, if not at the forefront. And if someone else chooses different for those they love and protect I'm not going to tell them what's best for them in any way. I understand perfectly. This is not the world we grew up in. But it is the realty of here and now.

We grew up in a wotld that was much more willing to brush stuff under the table. Things happen in the day. My kids go to a large suburban school that is much safer than my small town Iowa schhol was.

Understood. I remember your stories well.:)

It doesn't have to be Chicago or Detroit. It happened in rural Southeast Iowa as well.

Back then they didn't break into local TV every time there was a high speed chase or a Tornado warning. But it doesn't mean those things didn't happen in our day .

The world hasn't been the same since Nov. 22, 1963 and definitely hasn't been the same since Sept. 11, 2001.

My wife likes the ABC national news. I watch because David Muir makes me laugh. Every night there is "breaking news as he hits the air." Such as a tornado watch in Oklahoma in May.

Funny thing is, perpetrators, criminals, terrorists, et. al., are more protected than ever. Try firing a teacher, even if they get a little "handy" with a student. See how much time a female teacher gets for "seducing"--Jesus, why do they make it sound "romantic"?--a male student. Exactly what method--beyond a stern rebuke and grimace from the always-tough-and-imposing Chuck Schumer--would you use to interrogate a terror suspect? And do you dare expect a convicted mass murderer to serve his/her time without a kosher/halal kitchen, pinpoint climate control and 200 channels plus all the premium movie apps?

A cop--in the heat of working an active scene--shoots a suspect and the media immediately calls for charges, conviction and disgracing the officer, fact-gathering be damned. Meanwhile, over in East Shithole USA, some guy, in addition to dealing drugs and peddling ass, kills a convenience store ownerin cold blood because he "didn't show respect". Where's the media? Filming Susan Sarandon as she prepares to lay down in front of a road grader to protest the inhumane treatment of this scholarly, spiritual, deeply oppressed man, of course.

We have more people in numbers as well as percentage of population behind bars.

I dont agree about the cop killing thing. Where Im at it doesnt get much play. A cop dhooting a 16 yo who was locked out of his house did. So did a cop driving 110 in a residential zone killing a young mother. It should get attentention. I was with my dad cop who got into a high speed chase that included Iowa gravel roads. He could of killed someone including me.

Teachers not getting fired has more to do with local politics.

Had s college friend do time at Terre Haute Fed. He didn't think it was a picnic. A good friend from grade school came out a shell of himself at Ft Madison. Not sure what answers are but answers arent easy.

We should also be concerned about how common and widespread the sexting was among the team before the abuser was known. Is it really this "normal" in AAU basketball?

So your college friend was a white, WASP-y type who didn't demand McDonald's, I take it?

On the cop-killing thing when, before recent times, did you ever see media justify cop-killings? That all changed between 2009-2017. Suddenly, there are actually people who justify killing cops, harassing members of an administration, etc. If you had advocated for the latter at ANY time between 2009-2017, we wouldn't be reading your posts here. Unless, of course, you demanded your high-speed wi-fi in the tank.

What has changed is technology. Video and youtube. Communication has changed. Recently a guy was released after 30 years due to coersion.

I do think we are heading toward somrthing like the 60s or worse only it wont be only college students, minorities and leftist radicals. Hope not but think so.

Our population is 2x the 60s.

About my college friend he was one of those financial guy who borrowed old ladies retirement and was going to put it back with interest only the stocks didnt cooperate.

I personally would be real happy w a state trooper who hit my daughter going 110 in a residential area.

You cant tell me there isnt domething in the police culture to have one do that responding to a wounded cop call 45 miles away that might have the culprit be heading his way. Btw the officer shot had been harassing the guy who shot him. In the past the woman killed would have been villified and made out to be the ptoblem.

Im not justifying anything, accept things have changed and there are reasons.

I already said way back when this thing first broke that the Barnstormers are going down in flames. Even if Barnstormers management did something as simple as looking the other way or paying parents off they are going to do time. and they should.

You really think McCaffery left the team because of "too many memories?" I guarantee you Fran saw the writing on the wall and wanted to distance his family from that shit show ASAP. Don't interpret that to mean I'm saying he knew about what was going on...I just mean that he's smart and connected enough to know if some shit is going to hit the fa and he doesn't want to be standing next to the fan.
