New assistant ideas

Iowa has a few different directions it could go in adding a 10th assistant.

One writer proposed that the ideal way to handle this would be to hire a RB coach, and change Brian's responsibilities to OC and TE coach. That move makes sense considering that TEs were Brian's forte with the Patriots.

Hiring a good charismatic RB coach that is a talented recruiter would be a no-brainer, IMO.

Whichever way Kirk goes, I sincerely hope he emphasizes recruiting ability as a primary criteria. It also wouldn't hurt to find someone with established ties to the St. Louis metro area given it's population density and close proximity to IC. We already have that to an extent with Chicago and Indianapolis.

i would be perfectly fine with brian's ONLY job being OC. He needs to focus on it and get much better. you know, like, spend all of his time breaking down opponents film. not sure forcing him to multitask is the best idea.

I'm hearing that Marcus Paschal is interested and there might be mutual interest. Maybe Rob can confirm.

I would take him, but I was kind of hoping that he would move up the ranks in Florida coaching and keep feeding us Florida kids.

I like that...a lot!

Maybe they can bring in Marv Cook to coach the OL. Switch Polasek to RB and special teams.

Actually they translated to 143 wins.

Regardless of how you feel about the man's current merit for the job, it is ludicrous to act like he hasn't been successful. How soon we all forget 15-12 years ago when every hawk was shitting themselves in fear every off-season worrying that Kirk would split for a better gig.
Some of you guys sure love your mediocrity.

So that makes it absolutely impossible for him to move..... like, EVER!

1 BCS win and only 6 top 25 finishes in 19 seasons is considered successful? Can I work for some of you guys? That way I could just coast and steal your money

It is cute that you think that working hard magically would equal more success. There hasn't ever been a time that Kirk has worked less than 100 hours a week for 9 months of the year. Get a clue bro.

What do you compare his 143 wins too? I consider what bob stoops did at Oklahoma a successful run considered the program he took over wasn’t in the best shape either. Ferentz had some successful seasons here and there but not overall. Adam I want to come work for your clueless ass so you don’t hold me accountable and you don’t care about my results year in and year out. Oh BTW if I do a shitty job 3 out of every 4 years and takefood off your table you still have to pay me as if I lead the company in sales 3 out of every 4 years. Sounds like a successful business model

Your still failing to understand that the "shitty" performance that you are talking about doesn't apply to reality. Reality is that the year by year expectation is .500 football. Kirk has only failed to meet expectation 3 times. 99, 00 and 12. The first 2 seasons are under standard grace period. So although you do not like the results of Kirk's job performance his employer considers him to be meeting or exceeding expectations year in and year out.

I wasn’t responding to Gary Barta’s expectations I was responding to yours which is what you posted. If you are on the same page as Barta then that’s even more disturbing

I did not post anything about my personal expectations. In large part because they are comically irrelevant...as are yours.

And yes I understand what Barta feels is a successful season . That makes him the worst AD in the big ten

If Barta is the worst, then:
1) How is Whitman better? Illinois sports are in much worse shape than Iowa's and have been for a long time.
2) How is Hobbs better? Rutgers is awful in basketball and football since they've been in the Big 10.
3) How is Bobinski better? Purdue has been good in basketball but pretty bad in football for a while.

There are other AD's who have been replaced over the years. How are (or were) they any better than Barta?

You may disagree with his hires, but Barta is not "the worst AD in the big ten".

So maybe 2nd worst?

Yeah maybe not but are those other schools top 25 in athletic department revenue? If you look at it that way he might be one of the worst in the country

Iowa sits at #20 in athletic revenues (The article is from 2016). Ahead of Iowa in the Big 10:
#3 Ohio St
#4 Michigan
#10 Penn St
#12 Wisconsin
#18 Minnesota
#19 Michigan St

Nebraska sits at #24, by the way.

So what makes you think that the amount of money garnered in athletic revenues translates to wins? Texas A&M (7-6) is #1 in athletic revenues and Texas (7-6) is #2. Wouldn't they, and their ADs, be bigger failures that Iowa this year?
