I too think Rhule is a good fit and will get Nebbie back to respectability, but then again, I thought that about Frost.
Its been fun watching Nebbie swing the pendulum so violently ever since Father Tom hung up his hypocritical whistle and headed to DC to do nothing.
Solich was too stuck in the past and in Nebbie's running tradition, so they hired Callahan to modernize the offense with a pro style look. Nope.
Nebraska needed to get back to its roots, so they hired a college guy who was tough as nails (except for the weird cat thing), with a focus on defense and running the football.
All Pelini did was win 9 games every year. He made them relevant again. However, Pelini was an asshole with no polish, no media savvy, a dumbass brother, and every time he played a good team he would lose by 30.
So what did they do? They hired the nicest old man on the planet who was both versed in the modern, pro style game but had college roots. Perfect, right? Except he had no investment in Nebraska, was always overrated, and was past whatever prime he had.
Fear not, the hottest young coach in the game just came off an undefeated season after turning around a cellar program, and he is a Nebbie alum, brash and speaks of title after title, loves Nebbie's tradition, runs a sophisticated college offense, and he can run this program for 3 decades like his mentor. What could go wrong?! Oh wait, he hired a high school staff and spent all of his time golfing, drinking and chasing beer cart girls.
So, now they have brought in an older, steady hand, who is seemingly more humble, more self-aware, and wants to lay a foundation that will lead to victory. 5th times the charm, Nebbie?
