Nebraska rape arrest fallout???

Have I missed something or has this issue vanished like a fart in the wind?
I know that the Nebby AD has said this is a University problem and not an athletic department issue. Can't believe that Nebraska has taken no definitive
action on this matter.

It it should be a criminal problem. I say Hawk fans where orange jump suits to the game :)

Very convenient to have 60 days to respond. Gets you through the current season. Being fair to the accused is fine but even Armstrong admits to sexual activity. He said it was consensual and everything was fine. The woman said it was rape and it was not fine. If these charges were made against an average guy, I can assure you that it would not take 60 days to make a disciplinary decision. The 60 days does provide ample time to reach a payoff to make it all go away with all charges dropped.

So they actually have a very bullet proof system in place. Unfortunately for Hawk fans everywhere there will obviously be NO decision until the New Year.

Rape/sexual assault as you all know would be a felony charge with stiff sentencing with a guilty verdict.

I am for letting the criminal courts do their process but as swiftly and truthfully as possible. If a university ignores evidence that they can get access to that seems to say they let a guilty person continue to play football then bad karma on that sports program.

could be like DJK, ARob, or Coker. Player gets suspended and/or secretly kicked off the team without admitting anything publicly or in some cases, without any actual arrest or criminal charges.

But I guess thats how Iowa handles these things lately since 2010. Sounds like Neb has gone to a similar system. going back to Pierce when Alford was around., things were different at Iowa back then.

Nice. If a random person gets investigated they are either, exonerated or charged within days. But apparently being an athlete(meaning starting player{sarcasm}) comes with entitlements.

This is a delicate area. Obviously the young men have some due process protections, but on the other hand, the school better not play guys who are going to get indicted on rape charges. A rush to judgment can lead to consequences like the Duke Lacrosse issue. However, contrast this situation to what Iowa did with Marcus Coker. That young man was not allowed to go on the bowl trip and was gone, yet no criminal charges were filed because the school needs to protect young women and not just the football team. See, also, the case of Kyle "Bonecrusher" Williams. Five star LB, but once the coaching staff saw him for a few days, he was gone. He went on to Purdue and is now playing under a 37 year contract with the State of Indiana Penal League.

Media talking heads always talk about coaches who "do things the right way" but it is always scumbags who they are talking about. Fran released Brust to play at Wisconsin, where he excelled. Kurt released Jake to play at Michigan, where he excelled. The U of Iowa implemented what can best be described as a carve out the cancer approach after Pierre Pierce and we've seen a lot of guys just immediately bounced from the team. While it sucks as a fan, for the broader university, that is the "right way" to do things. Anyone expecting Nebraska, sitting at 5-6, to do things "the right way" is going to be disappointed. The police over there give athletes far more leeway than anyone in Iowa City gets.

Mistitled thread, as there has NOT been an arrest...
This is my point. Anyone else would have been charged or exonerated by now. The fact that a system is in place to allow 60 days for this decision to be made is nonsense. Does the lack of an arrest dismiss the University of responsibility of the actions of the student athletes? Should be handled as a suspension pending investigation.

Good ol nebraska. What I want to know is, who provided the booze to the 20 year old girl. Usually the host of the party gets charged. I have heard nothing of that part of it.

So Jon, where do your media buddies stand on this? Do you think that the Iowa media when interviewing Riley and his players this week should make mention of this and ask them about their stand on letting players dress and play even though they have to have some facts? I think the Iowa media, and even national media should be bringing this up in full force and create a distraction for Nebby. Thoughts?

Screw the university, where are the POLICE on this matter? If any player is charged later, its the police we should be furious with more so than the university.

Didnt know the girl was underage. If true...that is on the Neb players for serving to a minor as they threw the party.

This is Nebraska we are talking about. In 6 months we might get an oops from the athletic department and quietly those two are never heard from again, this side of the arena league. They will see to it, nothing is decided before the end of the year.

There are too many incidents of rape on college campuses across the country. Yes, some accusations are likely bogus, but many more than that go unreported. Iowa, Nebraska, Ohio State , Florida, Yale, SMU, Arkansas etc. It is a nation wide issue. Unfortunately, many of the incidents involve the athletic departments, where there is some entitlement attitude among the athletes. Until the universities crack down on this issue and quit protecting the reputations of the organizations, see, Penn State with another issue but the same attitude, young women will still be a class of people in serious danger. NO excuses. Fix it.
