Ding ding ding... I don't see a flip side argument to that if I were Nebraska. It's what makes what he said so delusional. Iowa punched them in the mouth early in that game with those two long scores and that's really all it took. Nebraska had like one good possession the whole game. And even that took them scoring on a 4th and 10 to do it. There were no fluky turnovers in the game. Iowa late in the game man handled them on that last scoring drive in the 4th q. They had no fight in them. Didn't Iowa posses the ball like all but 2 or 3 mins of the 4th q? So by saying losing to Iowa was BS who exactly is he calling out? Their coaches, players or refs? Cause saying they were the better TEAM sure doesn't add up anyway you slice it.The problem is they didn't have more talent on the roster this year. They didn't have a defensive back as good at Desmond King. They didn't have a LB better than Josey. They had a couple decent DL players, but nothing considerably better than Jaleel.
On offense their OL wasn't better, their RB certainly weren't better, their QB wasn't better, but they did have better WR. When you have one position group that is better than the opponent, you are not more talented than them.
Of course, you're thinking like a rational football fan. Iowa has won 3 of the last 4, and it should be 4 of the last 4; however, Husker fans (the antithesis of rational) still have their heads in the clouds (or somewhere else). They'll never consider Iowa legitimate, because 20+ years ago they won National Championships.I honestly think a win in Lincoln next year would really waken some of the naive Husker fans. I think in their eyes they might recognize that Iowa is legit. I think a win in Lincoln next year really starts to ramp up the rivalry.
FIFYOf course, you're thinking like a rational football fan. They'll never consider Iowa legitimate, because 20+ years ago they won non-NCAA sanctioned National Championships.
Their QB sucked against Iowa the previous season and was severely limited due to injury last season. Hey, that's gotta be on their HC. Did they have to feature an injured Armstrong?Good lord it was an old-fashioned p*** pounding on Black Friday. They may have had more talent as freshman recruits but by the time the games are played it's a different story. Having one of the best developmental programs in all of college football is a great equalizer.
Problem is this: they don't consider us a rival. Period. And there are too many generations that still remember their glory days. So they're not going to consider us rivals until a couple generations move on and the younger generations see Iowa win 3-of-4 with 40-10 and 35-21 whippings. It is really about what happened on the field. If you defeat Minnesota, Iowa State and Nebraska, you can feel pretty good about defeating your rivals. If you lose the game, grit your teeth and get ready for next year. That is what a rivalry is all about.
Nebraska fans talk down to us even when we beat them. We have been guilty of that in the past with Iowa State. You need to respect your rival....Nebraska just can't get it in their heads that this is an important game for them each and every year.
Iowa owns Nebraska right now. We'll see what happens in Lincoln in 2017!
"Losing to Central/Western/North/etc. directional school was BS."
"Hey, they are an elite FCS program. Wasn't surprised by the outcome and don't know why anyone else would."
