Nebraska has their coach

How many people laughed at or thought the Bo Ryan hire at Wisconsin was terrible & would help Iowa basketball? Ryan basically was a Division III coach with two years experience at the Division I power UW-Milwaukee. Plus, Bo had a losing record in the Horizon League.

On paper, Lickliter was a much better hire. We all know how that worked out.

There would be a meltdown of epic proportions on this board if Iowa hired someone with Lute's resume today. Lute had twelve-years high school experience, four-years at Long Beach City College & one-year at Long Beach State. Sure Lute was 24-2 at Long Beach State, but I could have probably won twenty games with the talent Tark left behind.

At the time they were hired by Iowa, Fran's resume blew Lute's out of the water. Fran wasn't universally liked on this board. Wasn't Stormin's initial reaction to fire Barta.

I don't know whether it is a good decision or not. Time will tell. One thing I am pretty sure of, it will be a better hire than Lickliter. Of course, you could try & make a bad decision & do better than Lickliter.

yeah, like uni (and Drake), creighton is only one bad hire away from mediocrity. they have no recruiting base, no national exposure, no facilities advantage. its all about the guy in charge.

You really are grasping at straws here. Creighton is the bball school in nebby, to say otherwise is foolish. If you are being sarcastic you are fooling me.

creighton isn't successful at the expense of Nebraska, just like Butler isn't successful at the expense of Indiana and Purdue. Creighton and Nebraska don't battle for recruits. creighton and Nebraska don't battle for resources. there is plenty of room for both of them to be successful, and there is plenty of room for them both to fail.

How does Creighton have no facilities advantage? Do you realize what kind of arena they play in? They are a mid major team that's top 15 in attendance every year. They have a lot more national exposure than Nebraska.

Also, what recruiting base does Nebraska have? Creighton might be one bad hire away from mediocrity, but Nebraska needs a good hire to even reach mediocrity.

Look at Butler's attendence vs. Creighton's and you'll see the difference. There are many more Creighton basketball fans in Nebraska than Husker fans.

creighton has the advantage of bring the only game in a town that approaches 500k. creighton has no facilities advantage over Nebraska. Nebraska has much more national exposure with the big ten network.

Trust me there is no fear amongst any Creighton coach of nebby over taking them for the supreme school in that area. None whatsoever.

The saying red in the fall, blue in the winter will never change.

You have to keep in mind the guy you're talking to honestly thought Basabe was going to leave Iowa to go pro early. Not exactly the sharpest college basketball mind on the board.

Agree...Duff is either trolling or drunk

strong consideration.

he was also the guy who predicted Iowa to the NIT with 3 weeks left in the season, then spelled out exactly how it was going to happen.

regarding Nebraska basketball what can I say, some people got no vision.

Including the AD and canvass of nebby. Not sure who you are trying to convince here. Besides yourself.

You predicted, three weeks out, that the 7th place B10 team would make the NIT. Congrats, you're a real Nostradamus.

Most of Husker Nation, as I can see it, are pretty much like “Meh, we’ll wait and see” on Miles. He could be a great hire, but the last couple of mid-major coaches we brought in didn’t work out for a variety of reasons. Most of us were hoping that a good big name like Smart (never gonna happen), Groce, Marshall, Dixon, or Howland would be wooed by the new facilities if we money-whipped them enough. IMO, Miles seems like a good fit, seems like a good coach, now if he can recruit he can be successful. That is a big if, and it is going to be an uphill battle.

Comparing DoNU to Creighton, we don’t go after the same players (for the most part) they do, as nice as the CLink is, the P. Bank will be every bit as nice of a facility, and the new basketball/volleyball/wrestling practice facility and offices that recently opened are a nice as anybody in the country. If you haven’t seen them, honestly, check them out even if you aren’t a fan. They are amazing. If Nebrasketball gets rolling, Creighton will still be nothing but an afterthought, a nice little mid-major that had a nice run. If they played in the B1G this year, they would have been lucky to finish in the top half of the conference. Your Hawks would probably have finished higher. If they wouldn’t have hired Coach McDermott, they never would have got Doug, and probably wouldn’t have made the tourney this year.

Is this the bank that buys up all of the unsold football tickets to keep the sellout streak alive? Can't remember the name. Went to college out there and my best friend's mom worked at "the bank" that bought them up. Was able to go to several games this way. Hadn't really thought about it until I saw the arena was named for a bank.

This is a lie. There was one game where it was rumored that a business bought up a block of unsold tickets, not sure if it turned out to be true. They were for sale online for a very short period of time before they sold. If you think that getting free tickets means that there is something funny about the sellout streak, then you are clueless. About half of the games I have been to I got free tickets from a business. Usually, someone has them, or the business buys them, doesn’t use them, and a worker’s kid get a few freebies. It’s pretty common for businesses to have the rights to seats and skyboxes down there, so it's not too tough to get a free ride to a game if you know enough people.

You can say it's a lie if you want to, but she was an officer at the bank and she said that they have their allotment of tickets plus whatever goes unsold so that the sellout streak can stay alive. This was almost 20 years ago, but I've heard that it still goes on (by another poster on another board).

I think he took CS to the big dance this year.
He did, but building a program in the Mountain West, or WAC, or whatever is a far cry from building the bottom feeder in the B1G. Huge difference. Word is that his ace recruiter, former Chicago AAU coach Ron "Chin" Coleman is coming with him, which will be huge.
