Nebraska was a sub .500 team before Devaney got there in 1962. I think they were like a .35 team from 1945-1961. That's like on par with Iowa State. Most, if not all, of Nebraska's success can be attributed to Devaney and Osborne and that's it. It has almost nothing to do with fan expectations.
I'll tell ya something sick. IIRC Playboy's legendary sportwriter Anson Mount predicted Iowa to win the national title in 1962. That's how much respect Iowa had. With Iowa's fall from grace Nebraska picked up the baton and ran with it. Ohhhh, what might have been. Evy coaching thru to 1978. Then Hayden from 79-98. Then KF from 99-present. My friend THAT'S a dynasty!
