There is a strange species of Catholic Mafia Omaha folks called Jayskers. They root for the Huskers in football, but Creighton in basketball. I have no idea what they do with volleyball as both schools have good programs.

I joke about the Sandpeople. I have lived in Iowa and Nebraska and turns out the Applebees in the subburbs serves about the same shit. Omaha and Des Moines have a lot in common with respect to night life and downtown fun. Its not Kansas City, but it doesn't suck.

Its not that Omaha/Lincoln are dull or a bad place to live. Its a great place to raise a family (except for all the dumb Husker fans). What makes these people so crazy is that it is the only game in town. Nebraska has one football program, Iowa has 2.5 or so depending upon how you view Drake and UNI. Hell, Trev even axed UNO's football program just to make sure the monopoly had no competition. UNO Hockey and Creighton Basketball are cool events, but Husker football reigns supreme.

Coworker has Creighton seasons and says their games are an absolute blast. Makes the 2 1/2 hr round trip several times and makes his money back selling the rest on StubHub. Basically free other than gas money. Apparently their fans are awesome.

He has a daughter in Papillion and they went to a couple games a few years ago for something to do and he got hooked. He’s got no connection to the school whatsoever.

The mistake you making is giving Clowns too much credit. Maybe Drake, UNI and ISU add up to 0.75 compared to the Hawks, not 2.5. You've got to get that right.

My first encounter was at a Bar B Q my friend was throwing and he was a work friend of his. As condescending a SOB as I ever met. I was wearing a Hawk shirt and he starts right in about "O it's another Hawkeye idiot". Mind you I never said a work about his Nebby shirt. To keep the peace I left it alone. I did mention that my first game I attended was the Hawk win in '81. This was around the the time they were joining the conference and he was predicting Husker domination for the Big 10. Love to see him again and ask him how that worked out.

Anyway...

I was informed that Nebraska is also the only Power 5 basketball team that is winless in NCAA tournament games.

Damn, I just looked and you, xir, are correct. Even Northwestern eked out a win a few years ago, leaving Nebraska all alone.

I knew that they did not have one. Was not aware that they were all alone in that distinction.
 
I went and looked at a couple things.
It holds true for women's basketball too. At least since 2013 when they last won one.
Apparently they have a great bowling team that's won several national titles, one as recently as 2021.
But with football, and mens/womens basketball being what they are, does this not objectively make Nebraska the absolute worst overall sports program at the moment?

I think it does. I most definitely think it does.

Maybe they should just lean in to the bowling and give up on the rest. Focus where they have success.

They're 15th-20th-ish in wrestling depending on what poll or ranking you look at. In the B1G and B12 at least, wrestling is way bigger than chick basketball.

But still, F nebraska.

I conveniently left out wrestling which is categorically inconvenient to my reality. But, that's how we do things on the internet these days, right? Nuance? Can't have that.

At least not about Nebraska.
