nebraska Game Weather

Like the dumbass I am I took a buddy's tickets to the game because he has to work, and I see the wind chill is predicted to be 16 degrees at kickoff. Granted that's a ways out, but temp is the one thing weather models are damn good at predicting way ahead of time. There's also some snow forecasted but I don't start paying attention to precip forecasts until 2 days out.

Going to drive 5 and a half hours one way to watch Cade McNamara get sacked 11 times and throw 4 picks. Why do we as football fans do this to ourselves?

Because it's fun. That's what I'm telling myself.

Maybe Jackson Stratton will ride in to the rescue!

16 degrees, that's cold, I'm glad I'll be sitting in front of my big TV.............

Nearly every year one of the last two games is in sub freezing temps. From what I can tell the weather has been very good all season long. none of the Pac teams had to contend with this. The closest was Oregon last week at Madision, but the temps were the same in Seattle.

well try to have fun anyway. It might not be as bad as you think. Nebby may piss away a few opportunites too ya know.

I am jealous Fry. Will be out of state for Thanksgiving or I would have found a way to get there. Even bad Iowa football at Kinnick is a lot better than most things we all do!

When was the last snow game in IC?
I don't know if it was the last game, but I was at the Purdue game maybe 6 years ago when it snowed 9 inches the night before the game. Took my son who was in middle school at the time. I had 50 yard lines seats and had a ball. Had to stand the whole game because they did not clear the stands of snow. Everyone was passing around a community bottle of whisky to keep warm. Hawks won. Great memories.

I've been to plenty of real cold games and I always still have fun. If we get a bunch of snow I could see a chance at moving down low.

The all-time weirdest game I was ever at was the Nevada one in '22, after the 2nd or 3rd lightning delay the stadium pretty much emptied out and my kid and I went and sat at the 50 front row right behind the Iowa bench. It was a hoot. Saw lots of college kids hauling out 55 gallon garbage bags full of popcorn the vendors were getting rid of.

1:30 AM, hanging out behind the Iowa bench, shooting the shit with Sam LaPorta and taking selfies with players. Got Jazz Pattterson's attention and he threw a ball back and forth with my kid a couple times. Everyone there players included were in "eff it, we're having fun" mode. I hope Patterson didn't get seen by a coach and get yelled at. Wouldn't have believed it if I wasn't there.

Supposed to have Thanksgiving with the gf's family that Saturday so I'm hoping the snow doesn't hit, I like 'em a lot. Need to get rich and use the airport to get home.

It's crazy how many corporate jets are taking off over our tailgate in the hour or two after games. Amazes me that there are so many people who have that kind of cash and that kind of luxury. Can't imagine what it's like after a Texas, Alabama, OSU, etc. game. How cool would it be to leave your little hometown airport literally whenever you want, be in Iowa city in 45 minutes, hop in a brand new Mercedes SUV to bum around in, and after the game be back home in an hour if you wanted to?

16 degrees is crazy cold without wind... And I'm sure they'll be some of that too. That sounds miserable to me. It's gonna be chilly down here at night these next few days like 30s for lows 50s for highs. I can deal with that as long as it isn't raining.

An idea I'd have is if one has that kind of $ in a college town like that why not buy a nice place to own and stay at while you come to town? Rent it out Airb&b style the rest of the yr or whatever. They'd probably make $ doing it for peats sake

I suppose once you're in 8 figure territory it's probably more trouble than it's worth having a house. Especially if you can make a phone call, drive a few minutes to a small airport, hop on and be there in 45 minutes to an hour.

Here's what I don't understand and would like some rich folks to answer for me...

I stay until the end of the game no matter what, and from the time I leave my seat in Kinnick it's a 10 minute walk to my tailgate. Traffic anywhere near Kinnick is absolute lockdown in every direction. Total standstill. Yet within 30 minutes of getting to my tailgate I start seeing private jets taking off one after the other. The airport is a mile south of us.

Are all of these people who don't actually go to the game? I wouldn't think so...

Is there a super secret rich guy tunnel leading from underneath the press box or north endzone that goes straight to the airport?

I get it that their pilots probably have the engines running and ready to go when they get there, but it'd take me a couple hours sitting in traffic just to get to the airport after a game.

Oh I'm sure there's some of those come late leave early kind of folks. When I was in early 20s and got to go to some basketball games CHA all but half cleared out at the last 4 minute TO during a close game too. I was flabbergasted by that.

But yeah traffic is traffic once it's jammed up it is what it is those hopping on those have to be leaving early.

My uncle is one of the private jet guys. They fly in early the morning of, have a dedicated tailgating van stored at the airport, and have three parking spots right under the home bleachers. His group does a serious tailgate and then has club seats, but they almost always leave in the 4th quarter. They are in their cars within 2 minutes of leaving the stadium and beat the traffic out and fly back home. It sounds like they are not the only ones.

No batcave exit, just beating traffic.

I often wonder if I was super rich if life would get boring as non-rich life. I feel like with no real limitations if I’d just start chasing the next biggest thing after the previous one got stagnant.

At the end of the day every human being is just chasing dopamine whether it’s going on a three day vacation to Wisconsin Dells or a week long lavish Super Bowl trip and it probably doesn’t matter what it is at some point. That rush will always wear off after long enough.

The weather report for the Nebbie game absolutely sucks. I get a taste tomorrow. Up to 5” of snow, but not so cold. Eastern Wisconsin Near the Lake.
My kids gave me a battery heated vest last year for Xmas. We shall see. I am down low in the north end zone. May help some. In any event this old dumb ass will be there. It’s only a 4 1/2 hr drive for me…
