Nebraska Eating Their Own

IIRC, that sounds kind of like how Stross got treated after the OSU game. What their fans did is wrong, but I'm not about to point fingers, because our fanbase is guilty of it too.

Pelini, like all coaches, has taken abuse from fans when things don't go as they hoped.

Does he ever want to punch hecklers?

Wow. I can't believe these guys made comments like this to the media.
"Not playing for the fans." Well there goes any support you were gonna get in the future. If my memory serves me correct, Paul had some issues in the ISU game last year including a fumble on a long run where he got close to the endzone and just dropped it before he was even touched.

Pelini talks about punching someone???? Speechless....
 
I hate it when "fans" do this. They're kids for god's sake. How would these "fans" feel if every time they made a mistake, people were there to taunt them and blame them for something that has no bearing on their lives.

Yeah let's villify players and coaches for speaking the truth.
 
What kills me is..everyone knew they were overrated, except their fans. Pelini's record against quality opponents suck...even at home. Yet they didn't lose the game, they dropped passes, blah, blah, blah...just own the losses Nebraska just own them. Kinda like Texas owns your arses

Was there fans taunting him outside of the stadium? Was there comments left on his facebook page? I think comments on a message board are completely different...

Stross was treated the EXACT same way last year by Hawk fans. Trey even posted an apologetic plea on his FB page in response to the negativity that the Hawk fan was giving to him.

Duff, can you see Kirk Ferentz saying that, and would you condone it?

Did Stross make a comment such as "I don't play for the fans?"

I'm not saying I condone this behaviour from fans, but I don't see why these comments needed to be made. It's just more fuel to the fire.

I guess Niles is ok with playing in front of 20 people following his logic..

Was this because he knows he f'ed up or was it in response to fans taunting? I think they are completely different.

Athletes never play for the fans. You always play for the people lining up next to you. No one else. When I was an athlete, I gave my best at all times because I felt my team mates deserved nothing less, and I would be dispointed if they didn't give it there all for me. You don't worry about blowing the game for the fans, because you don't spend 5 hours a day with the fans.
 
I don't think you can rag on Paul too bad for his response. Nebraska fans are a different breed, who knows what they were taunting him with in person and on his FB page, knowing Husker fans my guess is it was pretty dispicable. As for the coach, yeah you don't want a coach to talk like that but he is giving an honest answer. Nebraska fans are ridiculous. Here's to them dropping their next two games as well - Mizzou to the B12 championship!
 
So let me get this straight- Nebraska fan is Iowa fan dressed in red? As for Pelini's comments- real classy, keep it up.

No. You take the worst Iowa fans, say the bottom 10% of the fanbase, and thats what makes up probably 50% of the Nebraska fanbase.
 
Also --

Besides "eating their own" and being in complete meltdown. Someone over their put up a link about how Nebraska has the "best fans" in the country. HUH???

And on the link they are all busy slapping each other on the back. "Yes" we are the greatest fans! "See - this proves it" etc

And there are like a 100 threads just ripping their team, their coach, the refs, etc etc.

I think you play for personal pride and for fun as well but it's not like the fans don't matter. Ricky isn't wearing all of those bracelets for his teammates.

Saying is not the same as doing.

Just last night in the Canucks/Wild NHL game a Canucks player grabbed a fan in the stands, and he'll get a hefty suspension for it.

But I certainly wouldn't blame any player or coach for saying that they'd like to punch a few fans.
 
I give Neb fans a lot of crap, but I do beleive that about 95% of their fanbase means well. They just have a huge fanbase, so running into an "annoying" Neb fan is easier to do.
The one thing I do wish.. this "best fans in the country" BS needs to go away.

...that Iowa has a history, the last 15 years or so, of booing their own players, don't you? They booed Paul Burmeister at QB in the 1990s and they booed Matt Sherman several years later. They also booed Adam Shada ON SENIOR DAY AT INTRODUCTION WITH HIS PARENTS NEXT TO HIM. Those are a few of tje instances that come to mind off the top of my head.

My point is that we might not be much different from Nebraska fan, and I would bet anything that if we had won several national championships we would be just as insufferable to other fans as they are to us.

Don't fool yourself.
