What would happen then thought, is that One of those teams would have likely made an NIT run and Iowa would have lost in the first round and one of those fans would make the same claim.

Of course every program wants to make the big dance. I felt that although we did not make it this year there was no way you could convince me that after watching our entire play across the year that we were not tournament worthy. I felt that way about a few other teams as well including Maryland. The RPI is bogus and proves that out by results in the tourney (see Mountain West).

I will also say.... I used to despise the NIT when Alford's Iowa teams would end up in it. After going through the Lick years, the lowest depths of basketball you could ever imagine, I can honestly say I will accept the NIT every time under Fran. There will be some years where the ball does not bounce our way, unlucky breaks, no respect from conference officials, great conference, etc. and we won't make it. This is one of those years.

Fran is doing it the right way, this is fun basketball and the kids are a joy to watch as they play hard. I want the big dance, but won't complain about the NIT because it means I get to watch more Iowa basketball.

I am of the belief that only 1 NIT team can make that claim. 2 things must happen, 1st be a bubble team that didn't make it. 2nd win the NIT.
