NCAA Tourney

I'm as excited about today's win as anything, but NCAA tournament? Common guys. We're playing MUCH better basketball now and I think we can still win a few more games, but we're still 10-13 (3-8). NCAA Tournament isn't happening. Next year, we could definitely be in some sort of post-season, but I'm too busy enjoying watching this team develop under Fran's leadership to worry much about post-season play this year.

I dont think its a rediculous post. The Poster is just excited about Iowa BB, whats wrong with that? Yes, its a 1/1000 chance to get there and it won't be through our record but a possibility through the B10 tourney. 4 games in 4 days with our lack of depth will hurt our chances, but I think its important to believe that your team can do it, I dont doubt the heart of this team. I think its great to see posts like this, it shows peoples blind faith in our program again. You wouldnt have seen this post in the last three years. IT'S POSITIVE!

We're not winning out, but if we did and won 3 games in the BTT, that wouldn't get us to the Big Dance. But riding that kind of hot streak, the NIT might be within reach.

But we're not winning out. Not even going to come close. I see, at most, 4 more wins, and all but one would be an upset of a ranked team (but those three games are all at home, which is why we might have a chance). MSU on the road? No. Illinois on the road? No way. We won't win another roadie this year. We can pick up maybe another 4 wins at home, but 3 is pushing the limits of being realistic.

We can win every game left on our schedule, we won't and probably won't win most of them.

We can beat both MSU and Illinois on the road. Those are not the same teams that they have been in the past. Indiana and Michigan both played really well at MSU.

I agree that we're capable of winning each individual game. Just like the football team was capable of winning every individual game on their schedule. But, like the football team, these Hawks are (most likely) not good enough to win all of them in succession.

To turn this thread in a more reasonable direction, what about our chances of making the tourney next year? We are bringing back the whole team sans Cole. We are adding Payne, White and Olgelsby plus possibly one or two more players. I think Brommer can be effective enough at center, the key is finding someone to provide good backup minutes at the 4 and 5. The Big Ten should be down which should help.

I really hope that we can make the dance for Gatens. He deserves to go at least one during his career.

Not sure what to think if I was a betting man, but stranger things have happened than a team getting to the NCAA's in the 2nd year of a new coach.

I seem to remember Bobby Knight taking Texas Tech to the tourney in his first year.

Could happen!

I see a possibility of the NIT or secondary tourny like that if everything goes right. I highly doubt we go to the tournament though.

I think a realistic expectation would be to be next year's Penn State. NIT could be within reach for next season.

Well, it seems to be that at every school that Franny Mac has been at, he has turned the program around in the second year! We will see, and I hope that this is no different.

I've been laughing for most of this thread until I got to this one. I haven't watched a full game all year, but saw most of the game today. I have no delusion that this team will make the NCAA tournament. The didn't beat a very good team today and Michigan State is in complete meltdown mode right now. That being said, this post is right on. This is still a very young team and I believe if Fran can find one or two players that can contribute next year, primarily on the offensive end, they could make the tournament next year.

The fact that they play hard, up tempo, and move the ball was exciting because as the talent and depth improve, they will be a blast to watch. Nice hire on Fran...he's going to get it done.

We need the best available JUCO Center we can find...period. We bring one in and we are making the NCAA tournament. If we don't then we will be heading to the NIT next year. In all honesty we have the PG(s), the shooters and an excellent 4 in Basabe we need a pure, true C that stands a legit 6'10" or taller that does nothing more than patrol the paint on D and grabs the loose balls and cheap put backs.

100% agree... and I mentioned this in another thread. This team has all the tools sans a BIG MAN to PATROL and replace the loss of Cole. This will allow Basabe to continue his methods.

There has to be some guy out there who would love to walk into this situation. They would have to beat out Brommer for a starting spot on a very good team. Find him or hope he finds us.

Do you think Cougill would be a big guy that would work for us again? I don't think he is big enough to pound down in the paint and he also likes to go outside too much. Wonder who we could go after.

Man, prepare to get reamed by some posters on here for even suggestion that. I totally agree though that we are one legit big man away from having a much, much improved and solid squad next year (I mean top half B10 finish & NCCA appearance by that). I'd consider it a disppointment if we don't at least make the NIT, considering what we have coming back plus adding Cully and a sharp shooter in Ogelsby.

Wow, we barely beat the worst team in the league, missing their top scorer and rebounder, and all of a sudden we are a force to be reckoned with.

What is it about sports that makes people check their common sense at the door?

Before I post something on this thread about how of a thought it is that the Hawks will win the BTT or even make the NCAA tourney I want to make sure the OP was just joking around. Please say you were.
