NCAA Tournament and Big 10 Teams

I realize we don’t know the NCAA seeds and matchups. But the Big 10 is the best and deepest conference. Baylor and Kansas look good but the Big 12 is generally bad IMO. Dayton, Gonzaga, San Diego State, etc. look good but play weaker competition.

So how much has it helped Big 10 teams to play potential Sweet 16 level competition almost every game...many in hostile road games? What’s your gut feeling on how well the conference will do? Sweet 16 team(s)? Final 4? National champions?

I think that B1G will be majorly under seeded - which is going to hurt imo and make the path harder to get there. It's like SOS gets thrown out every season and OOC just doesn't matter. Before the conference schedule started, the B1G was head and shoulders ahead of everyone. TOSU and Michigan were BOTH in the top 10. Then the season hit, and so did the loses and that has been completely forgotten about. The B1G won the ACC challenge and The Gavitt Games dealie - forgotten. Now Creighton's a 2 seed and Seton Hall is a 1. There isn't a single team in this weeks top 10. I don't think that bodes well for seeding. That said, I imagine the B1G will do well regardless cause that seems to happen every year.

Latest Lunardi bracket has me really LOL'ing.

Ohio St a 5? Iowa vs the Panthers. No kidding, lol.

I would guess the B1G will get at least four into the sweet 16. After that who knows.

I would agree the B1G doesn’t have any real juggernauts this year but they have a lot of teams that could be 3/4 seeds but are going to end up as 5/6 seeds because of the cannibalizing of the conference.

The downside to having so many team in the NCAAs is that there is inevitably going to be some matchups in the 2nd round, which sucks. Also, I agree with the earlier poster about under-seeding. We've beat the shit out of each other all year that you're going to get a lot of the teams in the 5-7 range that should really be in the 3-5 range.

4 teams sweet 16 sounds like a good number, but I am going for the "over" here........if the Lunardi bracket holds form, I think Iowa has a shot..........the seeding will be a joke though

This is the rare year where 3 vs. 7 doesn’t matter much. It won’t surprise me if 8 of the top 12 aren’t around for the 2nd weekend. I have no clue how to fill out a bracket this year.

I thought it was going to be this kind of year. It’s the 1st time in my life that I made a future bet (back in September) on The Field.

I will be picking most if not all of the Big 10 teams to win their 1st game. There won’t be a tougher big out there than Garza. Will there be a better guard than Winston? We all should be ready for the best most any team has to offer.

Not many but I would go with Flynn over him. IMO he’s the best player Iowa has gone up against this year

They try to avoid them as best they can. I know last year Minnesota lost to Sparty in the round of 32, so we knocked out one of our own.

They should be able to do it this year with 8 teams in the 3-6 range and then Rutgers and Indiana in the 8-10 range.

The upside is that Big10 refs won’t be officiating the games

I’m not saying Winston is the best. But it’s unlikely more than one of the 8+ teams from the Big 10 will see someone better...certainly not with his supporting cast. The same is likely true for Garza and the Cowan/Smith combo.

Random thoughts:

At one point we were talking 11 teams making the tournament, now we are down to 8, maybe 9 because Rutgers is squarely on the bubble with work to do.

I look at the tournament as a winning streak. Who is capable of putting together the longest winning streak? imo, MSU is the team I would bet on to win 4,5,6 in a row. Everyone else is in that 3-4 range as a max. Maryland is the wildcard they could get worked in a 3/14 upset or they could make a run to the final 4.

If Joe was still playing good I would say we are capable of a first round loss or a long run too. I really hope he snaps out of it just in time.
