Bummer. I was hoping Kelly would get in not only to hopefully score a couple points but to get some experience at the big show that could benefit him if he's our 149 next year.

I sure hope Iowa can get a solid 149 pound guy next year. Start lifting some weights Josh Dwieza/Ballwegs!

I'm not sure Kelly is the answer at 149 either. That being said, if he didn't make some poor decisions that lost a lot of close matches for him, he'd be sitting a lot better and would be in the tournament with a good opportunity to score some points. He's young and gaining experience. If he's able to make 149 next year and not make so many boneheaded decisions in matches, he could be fairly solid at that weight. I'm hoping a healthy Carew, a bigger stronger and confident Jake Ballweg and a more experienced Grothus are right there gunning for the spot though so whoever earns it will be greatly improved from this year's performance and score some points at nationals to help the Hawks regain the title.

wait Jackson was on record today saying Spangler's season was done. How will they decide his spot that he was awarded?

with the empty spot at 49 for the ncaa's and the no place at the big10's at 49, maybe this puts a burr under some saddles and will get a kelly, ballewg or Dwieza in the weight room and wrestling room to drive them to be "The One Guy" that makes the difference next year. we have all talked about the lack of aggresiveness this year and hopefully one of these guys will fill this vacant spot with the same heart and desire that we see with the likes of a McD and Ramos amoung others. With what we return next year, if we can get that kind of effort out of our 49lber next year, it will be alot of fun.
