NCAA Eyes Ban on Early Scholarship offers

yep, NCAA needs to worry about creating an early signing period to prevent the poaching of recruits more than they need to worry about this.

Are you serious? You don't think the summer after a kids sophmore year is early enough? For some kids that would mean their first year actually physically at the High School. Jon, can you recall any player that an offer prior to their Junior year ended up being crucial for their signing with Iowa? The earliest commitment I recall was Morris and he was going to be a Hawk no matter what.

An early signing period makes sense, say the month of July prior to a prospect entering his senior year.

I also believe a limit to early scholarship offers makes sense. I would be in favor of prohibiting schools from offering a prospect prior to July 1st going into his junior year. The prospect still has two full years of high school ahead of him. Offering a prospect with two full years to go is soon enough.

Schools offering a prospect while still in junior high is nonsense.

agreed- junior high is a little redic, but i think the proposal as it is right now isn't the right way to go either. the proposal as i understand it doesn't let college coaches OFFER recruits until july between the junior and senior season!

This article quoted Bob Huggins about recruiting practices and ethics? Not the best choice IMHO.

However, finding a way to keep coaches out of kids' heads and living rooms until at least high school is a good idea. Lane Kiffin chasing down a 13 year old is a bit much.
