NCAA Adding 3 Bowls Next Season

Those things must make money or they wouldn't be adding more. It can't be from ticket sales though, some of those lower tier bowls have damned few people in attendance.

The main things to remember are bowl games are put on by the local business people and chambers of commerce to get visitors in the city to spend money. It is an advertisement for their vacation spots etc. And also the big corporate sponsors are paying for a lot of the expense of the bowl game as a corporate tax write off which they can afford since most of those big companies do not have to pay any US income tax.

And with TV money and other companies paying for the game through commercials we should not even worry about how much money these bowls lose or make or how much ESPN loses on the game.

Sounds like the solution for a problem that doesn't exist. 65% of teams will now qualify for a bowl, almost dipping into 4-8 teams. So don't worry if Iowa struggles next season with the hard schedule, because if we go 5-7 you can still book your trip somewhere for a bowl.

What a freaking joke.

Originally bowls were simply exhibition games and the brain child of the chamber of commerce. Its still true today even though there was a time when they were only for outstanding seasons.

I can't wait until they start a loser's bowl, with a pair of 0-12 teams, just before the national championship.

I'd probably watch that. The worst team from the Big Ten vs the worst team from the Pac12 in the reverse Rose Bowl. So Rutgers vs Arizona? Rutgers would get smoked so maybe that isn't a good idea.

Rutgers vs Arkansas? That might be a close game.
