I would love us in the NC game, but don't know if I could go. I could definately go to the Rose Bowl game on Jan. 1.
If Iowa goes 11-1, its going to get a BCS bid. And no way does a 1-loss Texas team go to title over a 12-0 Iowa team. Not a chance of that.
Im just taking it one game at a time right now. At the end of the season we could be either 8-4, 9-3, 10-2, 11-1, or 12-0...All four records could put us in a different bowl game. Lets just talk Indiana, like what are they gonna throw at us on Offense and Defense...maybe they will come after one of our punts etc...what are our thoughts on this!
Some of you are being rediculous...
First, Jon is right. IF we go undefeated we will not be passed up by a 1 loss team. I don't care what talking heads on ESPN, human polls, etc. say. I'm not saying we won't be left out of the NC title game b/c that could happen if there are two other unbeatens.
Secondly, anyone who wants the Rose Bowl over the NC game needs to have their head examined. Seriously, this game is the PINNACLE of college football and to want to play in any other game is assanine.
There are a ton of scenarios that can happen. But here is why I see Iowa getting cheated out of a BCS game. I am making the assumption Iowa loses to OSU and wins their other 3 games and OSU wins out (both big assumptions), thereby putting Iowa at 11-1, and giving OSU the Rose Bowl bid.
1. Oky State beats out Texas and wins the Big 12 Champ. I think they jump Iowa (and Texas) in the polls.
2. I don't think a 1 loss Iowa gets the nod ahead of a 1 loss Texas. Both are undefeated currently, and Texas is ahead in the polls. (Besides of the one losses, Texas' loss would have come from a higher rated BCS team (#14 rank OSU) compared to Iowa's (#17 rank tOSU)
3. Florida and Alabama will meet in the SEC Championship - One of these teams will lose. However a 1 loss Florida or Alabama get the nod over a 1 loss Iowa.
3. Boise State, Cincy, and/or TCU goes undefeated. Iowa doesn't jump any of these teams.
4. Oregon wins the Pac 10 goes to the Rose Bowl
5. USC now has 2 losses. Which gets the nod, a 2 loss USC (who beat OSU & ND) or Iowa? I worry USC gets the nod.
6. How does Iowa stack up against a 1 loss LSU?
There are a lot of one loss teams in the Top 25. The computer likes Iowa, but the human polls aren't as generous. I think 1 loss gives the human polls more than enough "See I told you so" ammo to drop Iowa into a 10-15 ranking.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but LSU has to have more than one loss in that situation (they have to beat both Florida and Alabama to end with 1 loss), and even if that wasn't the case, the SEC can't get three teams in the BCS (unless I'm misunderstanding the BCS rules as well). With your scenario
SEC--2 teams (Alabama, Florida)
Big 12--2 teams (Texas, OSU)
Pac 10--2 teams (USC, Oregon)
Big East--1 team (Cincy)
Big Ten--1 team (OSU)
Non-AQs--1 or 2 teams (TCU, maybe Boise St.)
So it would come down to 11-1 Iowa versus a second non-automatic qualifier, probably Boise State since TCU will probably finish ahead of them in the BCS and get the first spot. I highly doubt any of the BCS games will pick Boise over Iowa if a Non-AQ team is already chosen, even if they're undefeated.
Sorry, I missed LSU still had Alabama on thier schedule.
Maybe a one loss Iowa gets some love over an unbeaten Boise State but I don't think they do.
