Nbcsports......Here we go again another year another late season collapse hawkeyes

Whats weird about the timing of that article is the year before that Iowa finished the year 8-2 in the regular season. Sure they got beat by Penn State in the BTT, which was pathetic, but then they stomped Davidson by 30 in the NCAA tournament.

Not sure that qualifies as a late season collapse...by any stretch.

Doesn't matter..Iowa is now branded the team of collapses under Fran and will get no sympathy from the committee.

If it was a trend in 2016, it must be a trend today. Yes? No?

Yes. 3 times in the last 6 years. That's every other year on average. It's a trend.
  • 2013-14: #10 in January, projected 4 seed by Lunardi IIRC, drop all the way to the First Four and lose that game.
  • 2015-16: #3 in January, projected 1 seed by Lunardi, drop all the way to a 7 seed.
  • 2018-19: This story is still being written, but #17 not long ago, project 6 by Lunardi, but just lost 5 of 6, down to a 9, which may be generous.
The other 3 seasons:
  • 2014-15: That season actually ended well, sans the bad loss to PSU in the BTT.
  • 2016-17: Strong finish, blown out by Indiana in BTT, 2nd round NIT.
  • 2017-18: 19 losses. Not much else to say here.
So the 2 seasons where the Hawks did finish well, were seasons where Iowa was flying under the radar and not ranked, etc. Maybe Fran's teams just wilt when they're in the spotlight, have that target on their backs and are getting everyone's best shot. Not sure what else to think.
