From article:

Iowa: The Hawkeyes lose leading scorer Roy Devyn Marble, but he was the only player on last year’s team to average over 30 minutes a game and Iowa returns seven players that averaged at least 11 minutes a game last season. Iowa also adds touted junior college point guard Trey Dickerson, who is very quick off-the-dribble and should give Hawkeye shooters even more room to operate.

Holy Crap. CBS has Iowa #2 in the way too early power rankings??

Way Too Early Power Rankings

1. Wisconsin
2. Iowa
3. Michigan State
4. Michigan
5. Nebraska
6. Ohio State
7. Illinois
8. Minnesota
9. Maryland
10. Indiana
11. Purdue
12. Northwestern
13. Penn State
14. Rutgers

I do not get this....but I will take it. I have Iowa behind Wis, MSU,Mich,Nebby,OSU,...fighting with Minny and Illinois for 6-8.

Thanks, HH, another article from you today. They also have the Hawks ranked #20 in the Post Early Entry 2014/15 Top 25....

Not certain how I feel about this, but it is better to be ranked than not from a recruiting standpoint, however it is, as stated, rather early....

You know, JH, logically (what teams lost, who's coming back, who's new) I can see why they have Iowa #2. Nebby got hot...very hot, and they'll be hard pressed to do that again. But, Iowa has to play every game 40 minutes, no let up and no let downs. As we know, they struggles with that this season. Iowa has plenty of talent on this team, but can they put it together? can TD be the perimeter ball handler we need in the half court? Is PJ ready to score 15 a game (on good shooting %'s), can Woody blossom on the offensive end? Will Aaron White TAKE a 15 foot jump shot? Yes, to all of those, we'll be pretty damn tough.

It's got to be mainly based on who's coming back. Iowa and Wisconsin bring back the most from the top half of the conference. MSU could be way down next year, OSU maybe. The conference will likely be at its weakest in several years.

Iowa is returning a lot of experience. Hopfully, the rankings will help Iowa land some of those bigs from texas. The center Djery Baptiste is visiting Iowa sometime in the future. The power forward from Texas looks pretty good too.

These feel optimistic. I wouldn't have Iowa that high, although I am very interested to see how the play together now without Marble. He did a lot, but he also too 22% of the shots...or 191 more than Aaron White, who was #2 on the team. That is a LOT more...nearly 6 more per game. White needed to have a bigger role. Then again, I don't like White at the three

That's on White. Someone has to shoot each possession, White consistently passes up open jump shots, same with Uthoff, when the games get physical both of those guys become very reluctant shooters. Ogelsby is somewhat the same way though that may be due more to his slow release. When Marble was on the court with those guys, of course he had to shoot a lot.

Agree. If Aaron did not feel confident enough to shoot more, then I did not want him to shoot it. He was one guy they laid off and had open looks. Uthoff, they guarded out on the perimeter, with smaller 3's, and he struggled to drive around those quicker guys. Nobody but Devyn could get his own shot....so he ended up shooting so much. Nobody could even really get other guys shots, outside of Devyn....so double edged sword for Devyn...nobody can set me up, and nobody can get their own....whats a guy to do?

This is how I see it as well. That is why Trey was such a vital pick-up. Still need more guys of that nature in that they're able to drive and shoot. I really hope Gesell figures it out, although I'm not sure he's physically gifted to consistently get around guards in the B1G. Much like what we did with football recruiting in recent years, we need to land some quick, athletic guys who can take it to the rack and be able to at least hit a mid-range jumper with some consistency.

Bingo...
So we'll see if Dickerson can help set some other people up and get himself shots. Without having seen him play I hope he can be better then Mike G at it. With Oglesby and Jok on the court at the same time that should spread the court as much as it can be. I think Uthoff is the wild card. If he can gain 10-20 lbs of muscle look out... He doesn't look that confident out there sometimes. But as skilled as he is it'd sure be fun to see him with more playing time capitalize on it.

Mike G had plenty of quickness to get into the lane last year but turned it over or missed the layup. He will get continue to get bigger to get the strength to finish at the hoop. Mike G will be a solid guard the B1G before his career ends. He has already shown flashes of a good A/T ratio and has a good stroke most of the time. Hopefully he gets the FT's in order. It might have been a mental thing last year.

I dont want White shooting the shots from range he was passing up. I dont want him out there in that space as much as he is. Put him in the paint. Uthoff, I want him shooting any open look he has.

After reading the article on Clemmons about him deciding to stay, I'm hopeful he'll really dedicate himself to busting his butt this offseason and getting back to the player he flashed as a freshman. That would give us another guard that can get around his man, penetrate and shoot. It can definitely happen... look at what Stauskus did by working his butt off in the offseason (not comparing Clemmons and Stauskas, just what can be done when a player decides to do whatever it takes).

And White NEEDS to be at the 4!

Quite right, Jon.....

Aaron needs to be operating in the paint.....

I remember a game his freshman year, I believe, at Wisconsin, he has trapped in the paint, no chance to pass the ball out. Aaron turned around, threw the ball off the backboard, rebounded it and put it in the basket....

He can operate in the paint very well.....

Looks like we might have a few three point sharpshooters next season, if they are all on, we will win those games.....

Large IF.....

The only way he gains that much weight by November would be by eating pizza, burgers and ice cream all day, and that's not the kind of weight you'd like to gain. 5-8 lbs. of muscle would go a long way though.

So Fran pretty much HAS to play White at the 4 since Basabe and McCabe are no longer around, right? I really hope that's what ends up happening at least. He's just not a 3. He doesn't really have the ability to create his own shot off the dribble or that great of a long range stroke.

I do think White passed up way too many 10-15 footers (no need for him to take 3 pntrs) and he needs to take those and make a decent %. He needs to do this because if he does play the 4 (fulltime) he likely is going to have a heavier/slower guy defending him. He needs to draw his defender away from the basket to open up his drives (which he is very good at driving from the wing.) Too many times last season, however, his defender played off of him when he was on the wing and they were able to better stop his drives. White isn't going to make it in the NBA without at least a 10-15 foot jumpshot.
