Nate Stanley to the Vikings in the 7th Round, Pick 244 Overall.

Barring any injury set backs I think he has an excellent shot to win the back-up spot. I think with the system they have in place that is heavy play action it is a really good fit for him.

Fired up to hear this. Today had to be a long ass day for him and Geno both. I think he's got as good of a chance of getting the #2 gig behind Cousins as anyone. I'm pretty surprised teams like the Steelers and Pats didn't take him earlier. (way earlier) but hey now that's it's done nothing else matters. Get in there and show em what you got.

my sister and bro-in-law and family are vikings and cyclones fans.

now they have to root for a Hawkeye.
again.

LLLLOL

Happy to see him get drafted, and only 73 miles from his hometown ... but I guess he grew up a Bears fan.

Hopefully Nate gets cut by the Vikings early in training camp and then gets picked up by a better franchise and eventually becomes their starter.

I'm telling you...Stanley frustrated the hell out of me at Iowa. He can make all the throws...all of them...but he was just terribly inconsistent at times. Now, an NFL franchise is going to identify mechanics issues...and I think his accuracy will improve. Hell, I watched him in that challenge and could tell he was confident and was throwing strikes, he was the clear leader of the QBs in that challenge.

Stanley's NFL issues will begin when the pressure happens. He needs to not get sped up...and he needs to make good decisions with the ball. He's just not going to be guy that gets flushed and makes the big play...it's just whether he can make the RIGHT play. Ben Rothlisberger is a good measure...Ben is cool as a cucumber and he will wait and create just enough space to make a throw. Can Stanley learn that? That's the determination of Nate's success.

I'm hoping the work on mechanics has solved the accuracy issues. I wish him the best...great kid, great Hawkeye!

So looking at the last 6 Iowa starters

Stanley 7th round
Beathard 3rd round
Rudock 6th round
Vandenburg Undrafted free agent
Stanzi 5th round
Christensened - transferred and never heard from again.

If I had to rate these QB's based on their play at Iowa, I would put them in about the same order as their draft rounds.

1. CJB
2. Stanzi
3. Rudock
4. Stanley
5. JVB
6. JC

Stanley is the hardest to rank, because you have to balance good Stanley with bad Stanley. Part of me wants to rank Stanley 2nd behind Beathard. Part of me wants to rank him even below Vandenburg.
