Nate S. dropped two long balls on target

He is getting better on the long ball dropping in the ball to Marsette, who needs to make that catch, and Fant. I dont hear people being too negative on this anymore. He zipped the ball when he had too and he has a big time arm that can throw a 30 yard out. Podolak said he made really good throws.

I hope he keeps improving and makes the special connection with a couple of his receivers. If someone beats him out while he is still good then that only makes the hawks better.

Now, if we could just get our offensive coordinator to realize his arm gives us the best chance to win games. Until Brian Ferentz realizes you can't be balanced when the defense isn't balanced...and is playing 8 or 9 on the LOS, our games will look like the last 3-4 games. We come out throwing and score quickly, then we decide to bottle things up and try to run the ball. Minnesota never changed their defense...and we kept trying to be balanced. Get Wadley involved in the passing game. How we don't have him in space or on dump downs or something in the passing game is criminal.

The running game will improve when teams start to respect our passing game. Stanley is pretty damn good when he has a pocket or time...let him win games. That being said...receivers have to catch the damn ball. ISM and Vandenburg can't drop beautifully thrown footballs in big situations. Those two plays (drop and drop interception) kept this game close...that and the Butler fumble. This team just won't help itself with what should be routine plays or catches.

It really isnt the lomg balls. It is the mid pass over linemen that is the issue. And that is coaching afrid of turn overs.

Totally spot on.

We don't have the receivers to be able to beat anyone relying on the pass. They cannot get open consistently enough, and when/if they do, then they can't catch the ball, or the ball is off target. It just seems like someone messes up constantly, which is a sign of a team that is not very good. Until our coaching staff can get better than MAC level talent at receiver, we will never have much for an offense.

Getting guys open is more than beating guys in one on one coverage. It's formation and getting your best athletes in advantageous positions. Fant, ISM, and Wadley are weapons that have the athleticism to get open against anyone if you put them in the right positions.

I was really optimistic about Brian Ferentz at OC, but with each game, I'm not understanding what he's doing. Point, Minnesota was hurting us on the perimeter with that little pitch to the weakside, where they had numbers against our defensive formation? Did they run it once? No, they ran it until we adjusted and started stopping it. They must have had 4-5 successful plays with the same set up. We open the game with the with the bootleg play to Hockenson for 20 yards...we didn't come back to it until the fourth quarter...when TJ got the penalty. There were so many situations where we needed a first down...and we refused to go back to something that worked previously in the passing game.

The bottom line is that guys need to make the play when it's presented to them...that hasn't been happening enough, but my god, let's make the defense stop successful plays at least a couple of times. I don't like the "that was successful, we are going to save it for the fourth quarter mentality." We had great field position a few times where we could have used the bootleg to keep the drive going...or run the deep ball to Fant several times...he's young, he can handle the work.

the pass rush has a tendency to come up the middle first. NS throws a lot of passes with an OL pushed into his lap. OL pass pro needs to improve (maybe by-product of smaller OL's to run zone scheme) and NS needs to start drifting away from it. NS will learn that. He was actually very athletic last night in the pocket. He's the real deal.

it's almost as if Iowa scripts the entire game by possessions. First 2 or 3 possessions are supposed to be scoring possessions. The next 2 or 3 clock and field management possessions and if we score, great. Then they see how to proceed from there. How many times in the past under KOK did we jump out to 10-0 or 14-0 leads only to lose or hang on 27-24? Essentially, getting beat but for a fast start?

There may be something to this. And it's a criticism on KF that I won't refute.

Captain Conservative, the one thing I really dislike about KF's philosophy. This is not 1950's football although Evy's teams scored a lot. The hawks need to look for big plays, plays that work, and not play into the defenses strength,

I don't like the play calls or the execution. Any pass attempted over 15 yards down the field has a dramatically lower chance to be caught for a reception, and a much higher chance to be intercepted. This is why you see guys throw to the sidelines, the quarterback can see it better and get the ball out faster. We need the receiver screen game to keep defenses honest and get guys out of the box.

You see on this play, if the play action doesn;t work then the defense has pressure on the quarterback and could cause a fumble or a sack or an interception.

I disagree and agree more that scheme can get above avg receives open.

Look at Fitz's receivers and many of Wisky's receivers, they are not all americans and burners but they get open.

How many times have you cursed jNW getting guys wide open like Carr last year just by using scheme, Hell N Texas St was getting guys open.

Easley gets open and without watching tape one wonders if the timing on our routes is a problem.

If we would put guys in motion more often then the QB and receivers would know man vs zone all the time. Zone you sit down in space.

tt, that clip was of a perfectly executed play. Offensive football must be a combination of passing and running. Just like in boxing you wouldn't only throw punches with your right hand; you need to use both and use one to set up the other and then you can reverse it. I sound like a "'let's pass it on every down" guy because we DON'T pass the ball enough and that makes us a one-armed puncher and easy to defend. You can use the run to set up the pass and the pass to set up the run and you should do both and it should be game planned dependent on your opponent. The entire universe expects kirk to run the ball on 1st and 20...remember last night? But just like an interception is possible each time you pass, a fumble is possible each time you run. Example is JB last night. That was a good run call and a good run and but for extra effort and (probably) a little lack of strength in his right arm, JB was stripped. No one is complaining about that, right? Honestly, that is "just football." Running into 8+ man fronts with a 190 lb back 15 times a game, isn't "...just football."

Lol the stuff you post on here is garbage. As I said to you before, you can be upset with the offense all you want but your constant drivel that you post isn't even remotely accurate.

then that means Stanley has had some divine intervention, this season, as he's thrown 17 tds and only 4 picks. I guess that means we should be throwing it on every down. I mean, with divine intervention and all. :)

Those were two nice throws...

But here is the reality...

We have a line that can't consistently create lanes for our RBs to run through...

We have receivers who don't have the athletic ability to consistently get open...

We have a QB or risk averse coaching staff that can't consistently complete or attempt over the middle passes...

Thus, the offense is lethargic, unreliable, and predictable...and boring...Quintessential Kirk...101

Baloney.

Our receivers are nowhere near as bad as some of you make out. Their problem isn’t getting open, it is catching the ball.
