Nate played well but not waiting for receivers to clear

I would like to get your opinion on Nate throwing early when he has time and not waiting for receivers to either come out of their break or clear defenders.

On several rollouts Nate had time but threw it quicker than maybe need to. One was that one to Easley who hadnt quite come out of his break but was starting to be wide open. wait a half second and hit him in stride.

Another was a tight window throw to fant who was splitting two defenders and if Nate waits a second Fant is totally behind both defenders and wide open for a TD. There were a couple of others and a few where he rushed the throw before pivoting his feet and making a good stride (two of these were the low throws he made).

Not sure if Nate was just playing too fast, not seeing some things or what. He made some very good throws when we needed them but we also need these incompletions being completions when receivers are starting to get open.

Anyone notice some of these quick throws and have other examples and comments.?

I don’t think it’s timing, it’s just missing the throws. Poor accuracy.

If you look at the throws to Fant, Easley, etc., the receiver was in position, Stanley just didn’t hit him. To Easley he had a fraction of a second, and threw it in my opinion at exactly the right time (the only time he could), but he threw it behind him.

This is the frustrating thing about Stanley. The plays develop and spread out like they should, but he throws WAY too may uncatchable balls when guys are wide open, and when guys are in coverage those turn into picks.

OK - but he waited tooooooooooo long on the W/O throw to #38 in the right corner EZ - and ended up eating the ball. The throw to Fant was too late as well and in the dirt. He seemed late on many throws. But to give the MD guys some love - their backfield played great IMO. Savage? - was a beast back there.

There were some throws that he rushed but probably because the MD D was sitting and attacking the Mid routes

.

I was talking about a pass to Easley where Nate was a little out in front of Easley. I cant remember the time of the game the the Hawks were moving to the south and snapped the ball at about the MD 45. Easley was on the right side of the formation about 5 yards downfield doing an in move, plant and move to the outside. Nate had rolled to that side and just was out in front of Easley who had not yet accelerated out of his cut.

There were a few pressures by MD that made Nate throw a little early but a few others Nate I thought could have waited on for receivers to get more open and ready for the ball.

I also agree that Nate can be late on throws which was more his usual miss.

I am not ragging on Nate who I thougth even last year was showing the stuff of a very good QB especially in TD to INT ratio. Nate is having a better year % wise, making making a couple more bad INT throws but overall just doing a great job.

I would like to see him not rush a few of these throws and clean up the footwork on some throws that seem to nosedive into the ground.

The Maryland QB was 6/15 for 47 yards. It was brutal. Go outside and try throwing in football in 25-45 mph wind some time.
I tried to - but I could only conjure up 15 mph - but I was great. Everyone of the 8 year olds said so.

I'll take bad Nate today and good Nate next week. How's that?;)

Wind was no joke. Wife and I visited the daughter today and attended the UW Whitewater game. Trees down in town, 55 mph winds, and blinding snow/ice pellet squalls. On one kickoff, the ball hung up in the wind, came straight down, and hit a wedge blocker right in the coconut. May have been worse conditions than Indiana 2009.

We are really going there on Nate today, lmao give me a break. How stupid is this thread.. Those were straight up unbelievably brutal conditions for any QB at any level..
It’s not just today. Go back and rewatch the games so far...look at how many times he’s thrown right at defenders who’ve dropped the ball. And almost all of the picks he has thrown were all really really poor decisions.

I like him as QB and wouldn’t go with anyone in his place. But up against tougher teams this year and next he can’t keep that up.

He did not play well. I wasn’t upset with the 82 yards because you can chalk that up to the wind but he was missing dump offs to backs and making bad decisions throwing into coverage. The TD was a beauty though. He just can’t be off like that against the good teams.
Also they made a commitment to the run. And when they got up 13-0 in tough throwing conditions they really made a commitment to the run.

Has Brandon Smith come on, or what. I was asking for him in the red zone two weeks ago against the goofs when I noticed Max Cooper was out there in one receiver sets on the goal line and today Smith delivered in a big way. He could become our best red zone wideout since Marvin McNutt!

I am talking about the mental aspect of the game where he perhaps to my eyes is throwing/releasing the ball a little early in some situations where he has time and could wait for receivers to get more open, accelerate into their route, or clear defenders. This mental aspect has little to do with the wind or brutal conditions.

If you didnt notice anything then fine. There was a loud groan from the crowd on the early throw to Easley and I asked a simple question about his decision making.

Until I hear different from IowaLaws’sIsAlwaysRight Brandon Smith is a disappointment and should have been back-burnered 6 games ago.

I was just going to look up his thread from a few days ago.

Didn't he cite Brandon as all MIA or all disappointment or something like that?
