Nate Meier

I was surprised that he was given uniform #34. Doesn't seem like a number to give a guy you plan on moving away from RB.

That sounds like a guy who really does want to replace Marcus Coker :)

Like someone else said, I really like Meier's feet and balance, that's the one thing that makes me think he could be effective as a running back. And if his heart is set on it, then might as well give him a try there if he doesn't redshirt.

Worst comes to worst, he could keep his #34 when he becomes a defensive lineman, so he can remain a running back in spirit a la Babineaux.

if i remember correctly christian ballard wore #46. he was considered a big time te at one point and he became quite a defensive lineman. number means very little.

he will get a look at rb but when compared to the other rbs he will be behind them. if lynch transfers to iowa then his chances are even smaller.

meier was a great hs player. but he isnt as fast as coker. the kid is a punishing runner but he doesnt have the quickness or shiftiness of hill (and lynch) who are also between tackle runners. and obviously he doesnt have the game breaker ability that bullock or garmon bring.

if meier stays on offense he will be a fb. i am not sure we have a true heir apparent to rogers. i would guess that meier would have a bigger game impact on defense.

I don't think he can count on trucking big ten defenders and it seems that's his calling card. definitely a great looking kid to have in the program though, future fb or lb.

reminds me of Davis ryberg from cr Xavier. the kid absolutely dominated hs games. went to Iowa with a 400 lb bench and 600 lb squat, but being the strongest hs kid on the field didn't translate to d1 fb.

zero chance. he prolly red shirts this year beings as he has to learn a new position. hell he has to learn a whole new game.
You could be right however I feel if he's redshirting he's changing positions. For what it's worth his jersey number is 34 and he's getting first crack at rb. I know that he's going from 8 man to the big time but rb is probably the easiest position to learn. It's run right left middle and react lol. Obviously pass protection and running routes are involved too but of all positions on the ftball field where true freshman can step in rb is at the top of that list.

He's a bruiser. If something happened to Rodgers (knock on wood) I don't know what the FB position would look like. I don't know much about Gimm and it doesn't sound like anyone else does either. It would be nice to have a shiftier guy in the backfield who isn't afraid to stick his nose into someone, and can carry or catch the ball if need be. Specially with the amount of passing I think we're going to be doing. Need to have someone that can be an asset in pass protection instead of a liability.
