that was a smoking...visually and statistically...good platform for Kriener...His ability to shoot the mid range might end up setting him apart from Pemsl, Wagner, Uhl...

Young team and not a big surprise they fell flat after a big win. May have been a little to high on themselves. Learning experience. I think going in the right direction.

I never said, suggested or thought about firing Fran...not sure where that is coming from.

The team is weak at PG, and is young...and that is a bad combination, especially during hostile road games.

I am positive on how the BB program is trending...

And, if Iowa can beat Wisconsin...sweet.

The numbers I shared are astounding to me...disparity...that's all.

And Iowa is a nice place to coach, for a long time...nice people, happy with a touch of success...

True dat is. Having said that tho you can't use that excuse next year and even tho I predicted a roller coaster ride at the beginning of the season due to the youth of the team Fran himself has been at Iowa for seven years and yet fans want to treat him with kid gloves like this is only his third year at Iowa. He is responsible for keeping these classes more balanced.

Next year's excuse will be Jok is gone. So really all roads lead to two years from now when these freshman will be juniors and Fran will be going into his ninth year.

Interesting the two different mindsets among many forum posters between the football program and the basketball program. If Iowa were to let KF go after next season I don't think to many Iowa fans would be upset. I however sense the same would not be true if they let Fran go. Possible style of play in respective programs could be contributing to those feelings. I just sense tho that fan apathy towards Fran in is the early beginnings and if we go NIT this year and next Fran ass will will be on the red hot coals when these Freshmen are then Juniors.

Oh one more thing I realize it's spelled "though" and not "tho"............. just being lazy tonight. :)

I think Fran and the "product" he has right now, and into the next two years offers exciting, hope. that is powerful and keep the dogs at bay. Plus, he hasn't been here that "long" in terms of Iowa patience. Fran is trending upbeat and exciting, including his two talented sons. An elite PG would be the missing link...

Kirk has been here a long time and getting a "bowl" is pretty much meaningless since, what, 100 teams get to go to them. And, being embarrassed in bowl games, on a national stage, repeatedly, by "name" teams, the ones we want to be like, offers a sense of hopelessness and status quo. Kirk is trending boring and poorly coached with little at the skill positions. His exciting change is hiring his son as OC. OK, got it...

A tale of two cities...as it were...

My two cents...

We already have a PG

I love how so many have told me I'm ok with being mediocre because I'm not super angry about getting blown out by NW. No I don't like it, but come on, this team is young. We've had a lot of really fun games this year. And we've had some pretty bad games. That's pretty normal for a young team. I'm excited for the future. I think we can see the team Fran wants to put on the floor. I know it's year 7, but Fran brought us out of a hole with some loyal Iowa recruits. We aren't Kentucky, Duke, or Kansas. We don't just simply reload. But we have a lot of young talent, and more coming in. The future is bright, we just have to be patient and enjoy the good times watching these kids grow.

The loss wasn't totally unexpected, for sure. But my God, to have lost by 35 points - the largest margin of defeat at the hands of Northwestern EVER. It makes it harder for a program to move forward with these kinds of losses. What worries me is not just the magnitude of these road losses, but that this team seems to be so intimidated on the road you can't help but wonder how rare road wins are going to be in the next few years. I would hate to think that Iowa has to begin each B1G season with the assumption of 9 road losses right off the bat. The Purdue blow-out wasn't a shocker. This Northwestern debacle is very troubling..

Before this game, we really only played terrible for the first 7 minutes of the Purdue game. The rest of that game and the Nebraska game we actually played pretty good.

This last game was just like the start of the Purdue game where the other team was on fire and we struggled. The biggest difference between the two games is with about 8 minutes to go and the outcome already decided, they poured it on us at the same time we called it a night.

Where as with Purdue, both teams coasted until the end which is normally what happens in a blowout. I think Northwestern wanted to prove a point, while we had already conceeded. I highly doubt it affects the rest of the season.

All good points, PC. Makes me feel a little better, anyway. I am curious about the comment about Northwestern wanting to prove a point. Do you mean that the point was to embarrass a young Iowa team because they hate us, or more for national recognition? Either way, I think they intentionally ran up the score. Maybe someday they will pay for that...
