Naadir Tharpe

2011 point guard prospect committed to KU today which I hope could help with the recruitment of Paige. I know it is a long shot, but this news hopefully makes Iowa look a little more attractive.

Isn't it funny how coaches play games with these kids? Self was just at Linn-Mar last week almost forcing Tharpe's hand. It wouldn't surprise me if Self and the staff now back off of Paige because Tharpe and Paige are both pure PGs and not tall enough to really make a contribution at SG. I wouldn't expect KU to pull their offer as having more / better players on your staff is always a good thing.

This certainly helps Iowa's chances but it still doesn't change the fact that the kid is a solid 4 star and a top 5 PG in the country. Duke, NC and the others will come calling. Our staff needs to keep in touch with this kid as much as legally allowed by the NCAA.

Doubt it gets pulled. Never a bad thing to have 2 pgs.

It will definitely not get pulled. Hell look at Duke this year, they got two pg's in the same class. One is a one and done while the other is a four year player. That would be nice.

I'm not sure why you even bother posting about Marcus Paige when it's a foregone conclusion that this kid isn't staying in state.

Self will try to stack pgs with Tharpe coming in 2011 and Paige in 2012. But,hopefully Paige is smart enough to not want to be behind a kid one class ahead of him.

But, UNC still will be lurking. Duke has #1 pg Austin Rivers in 2011...not likely to get Paige the very next year.

Oh and PP...go back to the ISU board.

Austin Rivers is the #1 player in the country , but definitely not a PG. He is a SG through and through, and while he can handle duties at the one, he will be on the court with a true PG. Probably someone other than Kyrie Irving, who I expect to look fantastic this year and take off.

Tharpe is the backup plan, and Self will do what every great progam's coach does, and try and get a top PG every year.

How is it a forgone conclusion?

Because he said so...:D

KU may have taken themselves out of the Paige running, for now, depending on what the current roster does. Josh Selby, most likely a one and done, but they also have 2009 5* Elijah Johnson on the roster. Tyshawn Taylor can also play PG pretty well. If only one of these guys leave Tharpe takes that spot, so where is the room? How many teams have four PG's that can start on their team?

I just read that Paige will still be at KU's Midnight Madness showcase along with a stupid amount of 5 and 4 * players.

You are right, that clearly tells me that Paige will be going to KU...unless you personally know him, there is no way to say where he will end up at this point in his recruitment.

I was just trying to add more information to the discussion. Thanks for that though.
