My thoughts on ISU after watching their game v Tulsa

Spread offenses = LB's in pass coverage...simple addition. Get over it.

Iowa used nickle and dime packages vs NIU according to another website. Can't confirm but I would not be surprised.

Hey I want us to start with the LBs in coverage. I'm more worried about the running out of the spread than the passing. BUT, if they start throwing and abusing one of our LBs I hope we make a change.

Buford and Draper agree that not very many posters in this thread watched the Iowa game last Saturday.

What are you guys talking about? We ran more nickel and dime coverage last week than we ever have, and it actually hurt us a bit on the QB draws.

exactly. if the lbers are replaced by secondary type guys, they (any spread team) will spread the ball and run all over us. pick your poison, i guess.

the subtle things not picked up by jo hok fan. blitz!!

What appeared to hurt us with those QB draws was that we tried to defend the empty set without a LB in the box on several occasions.

Our 4 DL vs. their 5 OL = Not putting our defense in an advantageous position

The best way to beat Cy is to keep Jantz off of the field. The GD ball control offense must once again control TOP. The only way that is going to happen is if the OL really steps up their pass protection game because Cy is going to blitz and blitz often. They have seen the film and they know the best way to beat Iowa is to keep pressure on JVB.

Iowa is going to need more than FGs to win this one and can't afford to have many drives stall out in the red zone. The TEs are going to have to seriously block their guy before releasing and then slip in behind the the blitzing LBs and JVB has got to see them get open and get the ball to them pronto.

Special teams is going to have to play the new KO rules to our advantage. Dropping the ball right on the goal line and not allowing appreciable return yardage is a must. Can't afford any missed FGs or PATs. Forcing a turnover on a punt will be huge. Taking care of the ball when receiving kicks and punts is job number one. No turnovers.

The DBs are going to have to provide airtight coverage in man and the LBs are going to have to be decisive. The DL has to watch over pursuit to maintain containment w/ Jantz. This D needs to step up and force some questionable throws because a defensive score will probably be the difference in a close game.

Hawks 31, Clones 28.

My question precisely. Any chance we bring in another DB or will we just try to cover with our LB's?
I see ISU spreading us out and QB drawing all day long on us.:(

My question is this: After getting smoked by this type of offense repeatedly (and increasingly as more teams use it), how long until we adjust our D to handle it?

Stagnation=mediocrity And our program appears to be in stagnation mode.
