My Thoughts On Iowa's Next Bball Coach

whats wrong with Bob Knight?

I think he'd love to get back at Indiana... and we need a coach thats going to let it be known hes on the sideline... Lick is to conservative and not very vocal from what ive seen.

we need the BK fire

Nothing's wrong with him, I was just surprised to see his name up there because he's someone I would never have thought of in a million years.

He can't coach forever, can he?

Has he coached since he got to Iowa?

how many other threads are about him needing to be replaced...

I was a Lick supporter but we cant lose guys and there is a lot of talk of more transfers off this current team... pretty soon we wont be able to beat BV. Central. Simpson. Loras. Wartburg, Upper Iowa... should i continue?

Let me set the record straight: I'm not saying that Lickliter should be fired/quit/resign for a while, but since we'll have to get a new coach eventually, I'm just discussing for waaaaayyyyy down the road

I posted this in another thread, but it applies here too.

Here's a list of guys I would like to see us chase:

Guys that are aging and seem to be happy but are great coaches:
Gary Close (assistant Wisconsin, worked at Iowa under Mr. Davis)
Melvin Watkins (assistant Missouri)

Younger (about 30-40 YO) guys that would bring energy and might want their first head coaching job:
Steve Masiello (assistant Louisville)
Russ Springmann (assistant Texas)

Experienced long shots:
Chris Mack (HC Xavier)
Bruce Pearl (HC Tennessee)
Keno Davis (HC Providence)
Craig Neal (assistant New Mexico, top assistant at Iowa under Alford)

Experienced coaches that are maybe looking for a fresh start:
Tim Floyd
Kelvin Sampson (though there is no way we would even attempt to "show cause" before the required 2013 date)
Todd Bozeman

Like I said, I would be happy with any of the guys above; however, this list is mostly just what I would be good for the program, though I doubt that Iowa's next coach is on this list.

TheJumper5.. Thats a solid list...Russ Springmann I think would be SOLID... he could bring in talent from Texas while he gets his feet wet with the midwest talent. maybe your guy is on that list... im just concerned with how far outside of the box Barta would actually go in selecting a coach...

I'm not advocating that we need a new coach but if you do look.....Iowa went after a coach who was good at coaching up players.....there were some questions about his recruiting ability.

If Barta has to go through this again does he go with a coach who is a proven recruiter maybe not a lot of experience.

Iowa needs someone who is able to draw the fans back to a once proud program. Lickliter's style is a shock to Iowa fans and hasn't really been well received.

I really like Keno Davis as a possibility but then again I hope Lickliter can right the ship and get Iowa basketball going back in the right direction.
