My thoughts from Iowa's BTN Special Practice

Agreed on Garmon looking thin. Hill physically looks the part of a B1G rb.

Whoa. I must have watched a different program.
I thought Hill looked tiny. Garmon is thin, but he has a large frame. He can muscle up.
Hill looks like wegger without a high gear.

Like I said, Garmon looks thin. He’s a heckuvan athlete though, could be scary when he fills that frame. Hill is kind of a bowling ball - more of a downhill runner than wegs. Not sure why he chose #3 I’m not going to be able to watch him without thinking of the Wegherbomb.

Griffith says this year Iowa secondary best he's seen in six years of being there #BTNIA

Interesting...........

they say a lot by saying very little about bullock and rogers...i think hill will become the guy with bullock and/or garmon as change of pace guys.

from what little i saw of the rbs on the btn special
none of these guys look like greene/coker - so get over that wish
rb #4 looks like a fumbler (carries the ball off the point and lower than he should)
rb #3 carries the ball a like a tough runner - but looks small - but carries the ball like a rb should.
did not see any vid of the other guys!

good news greg castillo is ready to step in - look out - and oh lordy
rather see #22 back there but tailgating as a d-back = get burned. someone coach that #22!

Not many people in the Big ten are going to burn Torrey Campbell. He is a track sprinter and one of the fastest guys on the team.

Does anyone remember what they said about Mcall from a couple years ago?. It might be an interesting comparison.

They liked McCall a lot immediately. He was more ready to play that either of these two frosh, but so it goes.

Hill is 210lbs,at 6 dt,that is not small, that is solid. I think he looked like one of those backs who can squeeze thru small holes...ie, run small, but still be strong,a la A-Rob.
It is not ideal, but I think I agree with Dinardo and Griffin that we will be ok at running back,if these guys stay healthy.

Overall, I liked what I saw and heard. Receivers are going to surprise fans. D-Line might not overwhelm, but with numbers, should hang in there.
If Vandy is as good as I think, this team could surprise.
They will win 8 or more, imo.

I am really confused. What I saw on the BTN show and the multiple "Get ready because these guys are awful" threads, doesnt make sense.

Its hard to read one story while another story is be shouted from the side of the screen. I havent read anything on a page that has sound on it. FWIW

Jon, the staff has mentioned that Tanner Miller will be the safety that will walk into the box, not the SS this year. Otherwise, good points.

Thats probably what I took away from that show the most too. They'll probably have to be pretty good too with the Dline as green as they are. Davis looks huge tho. At least there are over 5 healthy bodies to throw in there on the line anyway. Having the back 7 with LBs all fast and quick should be huge when you look at the back half of our schedule playing all those teams that want to spread it out.

I'm interested to see what happens between Nico Law and Donatell. It's clear Law has loads of potential, but he's lacking in experience. Ferentz has shown a tendency in the past to go with the more experienced guy... I hope in this case they put Law on the field and let him show what he can do in a real game. I think he could bring a violent streak to this defense that would be a huge bonus.

It will be interesting to see if there is more specialization on defense. For example, will Spears come in during passing situations? Will a LBer go off for a DB? If so, which one? Morris might be the worst of the 3 starters in coverage, not that he is bad, but Hitch is a former DB and Chris K. is very mobile. I think the D is moving towards that sort of personnel (good-sized DBs who can cover). Draper/Lile/Gair.

That said, a lot of fans question Castillo, but he typically has pretty tight coverage. He may struggle to find the ball sometimes, and isn't real tall/long, but he does not get left in the dust too often.

He showed quite a bit last year when people had to double team him on ST.

With Donatell out "multiple games", it would be very surprising to me if Law didn't win the job.
