I agree. That play was near our seats and the ref was in a perfect spot to make the call. It had better be pretty obvious if you are going to overturn the call. I didn't see the replay, so maybe it was.
My understanding of the rule (which may be completely off) is that the ball can't shift in the receiver's hands when he's out of bounds and be called a catch. Given that, the moment I saw the replay, I knew that TD was coming off the board. the ball obviously shifted in his hands.
Again, it's quite possible that I am misunderstanding the rule (LEARN THE GAME), and it's just a coincidence they took the score off the board.
I certainly understand the sentiment that it's a dumb rule. if you can possess the ball, break the plane, then get out of bounds, I'd be ok with a TD being awarded. But whatever. I didn't think it was a terrible call.
