My take on the PC

We will all be back next year with the same complaints. Nothing will be different. Not much to look forward to.

I thought the presser was a trainwreck and I feel more uninspired reading it. He repeated their goal is to be "Big Ten Champions" several times. I would prefer if he would have said National Champions is the ultimate goal. I don't think he has ever said that. Sounded like a lot of drival and beating around the bush. Change needs to happen, but basically not that much. Basically we need to tweak some things....happy with the staff we have in place......meh.

This thing is not going to get any better. Some coaches just don't know when to get out of the game. Like it has been basically said in Batman, "You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain." Kirk is there.

You guys are kidding me. All these posts and no one seemed to notice the most glaring points made in the presser!?

1. The special teams coach did a "great job!" We were last or nearly last in the conference in punting, punt returns, and kick returns...and this constitutes a "great job?" In what world is that even a below average job? It was a HORRIBLE job.

2. Sure, Kirk finally acknowleged that CJ has some ability...but like a broken record, he STILL couldn't compliment CJ without immediately praising Rudock. No change here...not even a little bit. He even said it is still "very very close between qbs." "NO REGRETS ABOUT NOT PLAYING CJ MORE THIS SEASON." Hell, I would bet money that if both qbs stay, Jake will be named the starter by the 2nd game of the season next year, if not sooner.

3. When asked about changing scheme and whether we are a few years away from improvement...Ferentz responds by discussing how well the guys did academically and mentions that they did community service? wtf?? What on earth is he talking about?

4. Thoughts on coach Davis? "Excellent coach and really glad he is on our staff."

5. Next year is "NOT" his last stand. He doesnt measure seasons by wins and losses! It's about "playing the best we can." Aka, it's ok to lose because we are playing undersized walkons against Big10 football players but our guys try hard.

6. When asked about recruiting woes...he responds by stating that he's going to take tomorrow off, and mentions that Brandon Scherff won the Outland Trophy? Wow, that sounds like reenergized efforts to improve our 13th ranked recruiting class in the Big 10. Oh wait, no, it doesnt.

7. When later asked about how well the recruiting coordinator of said 13th ranked recruiting class is doing...instead of saying "we need to improve," he said "Wallace has done a GREAT job...hopefully things will improve."

7. Facilities - he has the audacity to complain about our facilities. Did no one else catch that? "We saw a lot of neat facilities out there...Our facilities are not ornate." Yet then admiting that Gary DiNardo said our facilities were top notch.

The only positive I see from the presser is that he admits that he has not been innovative enough over the past few years (i.e. admitting that we can't keep running the same 1980s style plays because the game has passed us by.

Also, it is very clear that his staff reads message boards...as people have been moaning that Kirk never mentions that our goal is to win championships. Clearly, someone whispered in his hear (likely the AD) and he made sure provide this lip service over and over, for the first time. If he wanted championships, shouldn't he recruit like a champ and be innovative like a champ?

If 8 wins gets him another year then the administration is the biggest joke in all of college sports. Has anyone looked at the schedule? He should have been fired this year for not winning 10 games.

Heck, he should have been let go right when he basically said " we can't get top knotch players."

Great message for great players to hear from the head coach. This guy is seriously clueless.

Bottom line is he and Barta are "all in" for next fall. I'm guessing that 7 wins (with one or two impressive ones) and a good bowl showing will be a minimum or its bye-bye Coach Ferentz.
Exactly which games on the schedule for next year could be considered "impressive" wins?

KF said staff had bare-all sit-down meeting.

no coaching changes

+

he said he needs to focus on film/football more than fundraising

=

guess what assistants said at the meeting.

(absentee landlord means things aren't meshing in football offices. maybe, don't be a fat cat by staying away from the fat cats)

Below are two statements NBC Sports said about the press conference. These words say all I need to know as a fan.

He will do things the same as he's done since 1999. At least he said he still is coaching the same way he did in 1999, so I'll take him at his word and not expect anything different.

Kirk Ferentz wants to make changes at Iowa without making changes

Like any good politician, the coach discussed change, but he didn’t actually offer any legitimate solutions that would improve the program after an underwhelming 7-6 campaign.

I was done after reading "it's not all about wins and losses." WTF!?!?! What exactly is competition about then?

There were many things that bugged me in this press conference. To many to mention really.

But outside of the football part of this program, he is a hypocrite. Here's what I mean. When asked questions about the past he said he doesn't look backwards. Yet, how many freaking times did he reference 1999? Come on man!

This was a very poor presser. Very poor. Embrassingly poor. I still can't believe what was said. This presser made things worse, not better. I still can't believe it.

When the coach says Iowa can't get top-notch players, what is he saying to the young men that committed to his program? I'm sure they love hearing about how Iowa had to "make do" with their ineptitude.
