my reason for breaking up the classes

the idea of Olaseni rs is a good one but that would make the incoming class a 6 or 7 man class, again relying on 2 freshmen bigs in the middle, which defeats the immediate improvement people demand.
in peoples mind we should be a 30 win team and a final 4 participant now,
its just not going to happen, even with another player will that happen not even a one and done will make it happen.
i am content with winning now AND building for the future success AND continued success, if it means taking another year to get the team built to where we can look at consistant top 5 in Conference and a sweet 16 each year i can wait, no need to sell out for a 1 year chance at a NT
and its not like this season was a failure, they are on the verge of winning 17 games and having a 9-9 conference record, that's a damn fine improvement over the last 6 years

I'm with you on that Herby, but your premise that we need 3334 is kind of moot at this point since we signed 5 guys this year. I'm not saying a 6th is what I want, but if Fran wants them, there is a reason. Now if it goes 2 3 3 5 that's not really that big of a deal comparitively.

I stopped reading after 30 wins and Final 4. NO ONE has seriously predicted that. Keep reachn Herbicide.

don't sell Gabe short, most wrote off McCabe and Marble. and look at how they improved, as of now Fran has shown he can spot talent and develope talent.
so until we see Gabe play next year, don't throw him under the bus,
besides everybody keeps saying it takes a Big time to adjust, so why can't it take that same time for Gabe, Leonard had a miserable freshmen year, but after a year of being at the next level he has improved

So what you are saying is you expect a Meyers Leonard type sophomore season from Gabe next year?

No need to saddle the lad with unreasonable expectations herb. Next you will be predicting 30 wins and a Final Four for this team next year.

Some of you are really jokesters, haha very funny. We all know there is a slim chance we will get to see Olaseni play 4 years at Iowa. After next year he will probably go to the NBA.

kinda pointless to red shirt Gabe. if he is worse then the freshmen next year, he will probably never be better then them. might as well not red shirt him so we can get someone else in a year before our fab 5 graduates

DuffMan hit the nail on the head. We are in no position to turn away talented players, period. We have been bad for far too long to act like we can pick and choose from class to class. Programs like UNC, KU, KY, OSU, MSU etc., have the luxury of red shirting 4 star recruits and banking scholarships because they know some former NBA star's kid wants to come there in 2014, we do not.

Outside of White and Marble, I am of the opinion that there are 3 starting spots open for competition and I would love to see McCaffrey fill the last spot with another recruit who can contribute. (Juco scorer or post player)

I would much rather have two awesome years and to terrible years than four mediocre

and in this years performance how can you see 4 mediocre years in the future, i'd clearly don't. maybe you can point it out to me, how the incoming class plus the 7 that are here. translate into 4 mediocre years

Depth never hurts! I think the reason that Iowa has won more this year is the fact that they actually have a bench that can produce some numbers. Having more guys that can equally contribute means that nobody will be tired and the "run and gun" offense will be runnin and gunnin the whole game. Now do I want fran to blow a scholly just for the heck of it? No, but if that player can contribute in any way then pick him up. Yes, we have a solid nucleus right now, but the thing that separates good teams from great teams is having guys that can step up and give your starters a rest. Look at iowa running backs, we've seen depth become an issue there. Basketball would be worse (although injury less likely) to lose one guy let alone two to injury and not have someone who can fill in. Depth is key!

Herby I know you are in the Michigan Basketball and Football coaches Hall of Fame but how bout trustn Fran for once?

I cannot believe some of you are actually responding to this with any degree of seriousness. I am starting to wonder if herby just sits around looking to find fault with the program. Were you a big time Lick or Alford supporter?

Here's the deal. Coach Fran is in year 2 of a 5 year contract. He works for a guy that told Alford to either win or take a hike, he took a hike, and then fired the guy he replaced him with after 3 years on the job. Do you honestly think Coach Fran is sitting around worried about how Iowa is going to compete in 2016/17 a year he is not even under contract for? Sure everyone is happy with him now but what if the team takes a step back next year? Us fans will be calling for his head!

This basketball program has not seen post season action in 6 years and before that they were in the big dance 17 of the previous 25 years. Anything can happen to the players on this team (academics, transfers, injuries, ect ect) and if I am Fran I am doing everything I can to win now and get this program back to what it once was in the shortest amount of time possible. If this means using scholarships to get players that might help us next year I am using them.

i do trust him , i also trust him to develope that talent, which it appear some of you don't.
Basabe will not leave til his senior year.
McCabe has shown he can and will improve to continue to be a solid 4.
and in Meyer we have another solid 4,
so which of those 3 do you throw under the bus for another player
again only 5 players play at a time, we have a solid 10 man rotation, so why intice transfers by adding a 6th player to this class, unless it is you that has no faith in Fran.

i have never been a Lick or Alford supporter. what i am is a supporter of the team and players, whatever it takes short of cheating i support, and i beleive buildin for the future is the right way, if you like the quick fix go follow Fred at ISU, with all his transferrs
in 3 recruiting classes Fran has replaced all but 1 from the Lick years, and he graduates next season

oh my gawd!!!! This is like trying to reason with my 1st grader. You are the one not showing "faith in Fran" not us. We are not the ones using the scholarships he is. So YOU are the one that needs to trust Fran that he knows what he is doing.

Couple things- You have railed on posters here for not supporting Alford when he was here. Now you just admitted to never supporting Alford.

Marble and McCabe are both Lickliter recruits.

Now I don't believe in Fran because I am not starting a thread telling him how to break up the classes. Makes sense, right?
