My question

I don't often post on the FB board but I do read this board.

Are the same people all over Barta for the contract extension the same people that thought Iowa was some powerhouse team this year? I read some posts on here acting like Akrum Wadley was the next Barry Sanders.

We can all agree that Barta and that contract are dumb. But you people certainly got duped in your own rights.

It's possible there are a couple. But for the most part, people who thought we were really good are positive thinkers, and people who think we suck because of one game are negative thinkers.

I was more optimistic than usual this year, but that meant I would be happy with 9+ wins than my usual 8+ wins. However, this loss felt different/worse...without serious improvement on oline and playcalling. 7 wins may be a stretch.

Shame on me, I got sucked in.

Our two best linemen were out. It will still be average but we're better than that most weeks.

Also what's the point of being a fan if you wont get sucked in? I remember after we blocked 2 field goals against UNI that I was just happy the dream was still alive. That dream stayed alive for 9 more weeks and it was fun as hell. I highly doubt I was more distraught than the average fan when we lost to Northwestern.

I'm not getting paid $4.5M a year in perpetuity to watch football games. Maybe you're barking up the wrong tree.

Barta does seem to jump at contract extensions after a one year wonder, but the contract is merely a formality for recruiting reasons. The TV announcers last week made the Barry Sanders comparison so I presume someone took it from there. I'm not sure what your point is. The team had a bad loss yes.

I laughed when I read this. Kirk always has a good year when his contract is about to be in question. Win the Orange bowl bam. 2020. If it was for recruiting it should just be a rolling contract. Add a year after each successful year. If it's a double digit win add 2 years, under .500 none get added.

Oddly enough, when Kurt refused to play Wadley, the O fell apart.

Yep. Anyone who acts like Kirk couldn't convince a kid to come to Iowa without an insane contract is nutz. The problem isn't the contract. It's Kirk's lukewarm recruiting touch. I'm tired of his Tom-Davis-like view that we shouldn't expect much cuz we're just Iowa. Tom Davis got fired cuz he said on his TV show that Iowa shouldn't expect conference titles.

"Hey kid. Come to little ole Iowa. We don't have much to offer you. And my expectations aren't extravagant. Unless we're talking about my contract. In that case I want a 34 million dollar buy-out and free education for my kids and jobs for my kids and subsidized housing for my kids and a cadillac health plan for my family that extends to my final day and a guarantee that things like Rhabdo cannot be used as cause when making my yearly review and . . . and . . . and . . . and . . . "

I read that sentence and I immediately think of ISU fan. Not really sure why.
