Prior to the conference tournaments, I tried to predict NCAA tournament seeding, using both the final coaches poll and the RPI rankings. Where applicable, I also took into account certain head-to-head results that didn’t seem to be properly affected in the coaches poll.

Seeding stays pretty much the same. Only question is whether to penalize Bedelyon for losing in the MAC Final. I think his head-to-head wins over Delgado and Perrelli keep him from dropping.

We already saw Mangrum’s win over Novachkov affect last week’s Intermat rankings. Stieber is obviously going to drop below Marion after Montell’s head-to-head win at Big 10s. Just not sure how far. No change for seeds 7-12 from the earlier rankings.

9. Habat (Edin)
10. Mason (Rut)
11. Jantzen (Harv)
12. Bradley (Mizzou)
I’m interested to see how much the seeding committee drops Mason after he injury defaulted out of EIWAs. According to a poster on themat.com, he was down 4-0 at the time of the injury (tweaked his knee). I may have dropped him too far. Jantzen medical defaulted in the semis. He’s battled injuries all year. I’m assuming once he had won an NCAA berth (EIWA was allocated 6 qualifiers at 149) he pulled out of the tournament. Bradley finished 2nd at Big 12s and slides into the 12 seed after Lopouchanski was upset twice at Big 10s.

9. Lister (Bing)
10. Monk (NDSU)
11. Jones (MSU)
12. Green (NEB)
No idea what they’re going to do with St. John. I’m assuming the seeding committee will take into account the fact that he was clearly still recovering from his injury when he lost to Demas and Pena earlier in the season. I think he gets either the 2 or 3 seed. Lester’s loss to Houdashelt (Mizzou) in the Big 12 Final drops him out of the seeded wrestlers.

9. Burak (UNC)
10. Polz (IL)
11. Hatchett (LEH)
12. C. Yohn (MN)
Not sure how far Asper and Sorenson are going to drop on account of their losses. Asper’s loss was to a seeded wrestler, Sorenson’s was not. However, with Sorenson owning a head-to-head win over Evans, I think Sorenson still gets seeded ahead of him. Jordan falls out of the top 12 entirely after his 2 early losses in the Big 10s. Cody Yohn jumps in as the 12th seed after finishing 5th at Big 10s and having Ws over Evans and Yates (Mich) on the season.

9. Munster (NW)
10. Heflin (OSU)
11. Edwards (ODU)
12. Zeerip (Mich)
It sounds like Spangler suffered another concussion in the Big 12 semis. Feel so bad for this kid. With him being unable to wrestle, everyone basically moves up a spot. I’ve got DesRoches jumping Ethen, but I wouldn’t be shocked if their seeds flip-flop. Sheptock may jump Blanton, but for now I’ve got Blanton as the 7 seed. I’m assuming the committee will take into account Heflin’s head-to-head win over Edwards to keep Heflin at the 10 seed despite his loss to Munster at Big 10s.

12. Clymer (Hof)
I may have dropped Wright too far here, but I don’t see how he’s not seeded behind Ihnen, especially after losing to him head-to-head this past weekend. Gambrall’s loss to Dallago really hurt him seeding-wise. He may not end up being seeded. His limited resume this season at 184 is going to be tough to assess.

12. Kennedy (LEH)
With some of the big boys getting upset this weekend (Honeycutt, Powless, and Yohn) and Byers being Oklahoma St.’s rep at Big 12s, this weight was a real mess to try and predict. I’m guessing on Byers – Rosholt was the starter at the time of the final coaches poll. Byers now has significant wins over Haynes (3x) and Hernandez. His losses are to Yohn, Rosholt and Hernandez. I’m also not sure how far Yohn is going to drop. That was a bad loss in the Big 10 quarters to Kissel, but he did come back to finish 3rd. Historically the seeding committee places a ton of weight on winning your conference tournament. That’s why I have Gonzalez going from unseeded to #10. I feel pretty good about 1-4, after that I’m not sure.

I think Nelson jumps Rey to get the 2 seed. Wade is going to drop – I think Telford gets the nod ahead of him due to the head-to-head win at Big 10s. Lane’s seed is going to be interesting. He had a terrible Big 10 tournament, but owns Ws over Telford and Cooper (2x). I think he’s still going to be seeded, but barely. Apland also had a terrible Big 10 tournaments – he drops out entirely with McMullan taking his spot.

We already saw Mangrum’s win over Novachkov affect last week’s Intermat rankings. Stieber is obviously going to drop below Marion after Montell’s head-to-head win at Big 10s. Just not sure how far. No change for seeds 7-12 from the earlier rankings.
