My impressions of cyclone stadium

It's been 12 years since I have been to Ames for a game. My impressions from my visit today. I didn't tailgate so I can't comment on that one.
1) the stadium structure itself is showing its age upper deck concrete looking very pitted and dumpy looking
2) press box is very outdated and resembles soviet style construction.
3) the stadium itself does not hold sound very well. I was shocked at how quiet and far away the ISU section sounded. However this may be due to me being in the upper deck opposite end but the place cannot contain noise.
4) ISU manufactures their own noise with a sound system that rivals a Metallica concert. Very annoying.
5) concessions are very dated and horrible service as we're the athrooms.

I was shocked at how many iowa fans were there. Compared to cyclones when it is in iowa city.

Fans were very civil and even polite. Except a few idiot iowa kids who were drunk and acting like fools to ISU fans.
Good game but in comparing facilities ISU is way behind the times.

Very true. None of them will admit any of this , but their stadium is very lacking. Reminded me of a High School stadium for noise when I was there a couple years ago.

lots of structure around the campus shows concrete crumbling - hilton itself and the buildings around it. folly should be saving the billboard money to facility improvement.

I guess none of those allegedly wicked smart engineers up there ever looked down at a driveway and thought to themselves "hmmm...pitting...cracks...crumbling...perhaps we shouldn't concrete the entire campus."

As an ISU alum and fan I have to agree. While I maintain the tailgating at ISU is top-notch, the facilities are behind the times. I'm hoping with the recent increase in ticket revenue there will be a change. It just may take a few years to get funds for renovations.

Additionally, good game and congrats on the win. Hopefully, the rest of the season sees both teams playing better than they've looked so far.

Can you imagine if the Big 12 had disbanded and folded into the Pac 12 / ACC or whatever. They'd have the football team painting the concrete with mud from Paul Rhodes backyard in preparation for their game with Bemidji State. I don't know, could be a fate better than what they face this year. I think 0-12 could be in the picture.

State plays Kansas this year. Other than the Iowa game, I could really care less how State does in the rest of their games, but after hearing the 0-12 doom and gloom comments from Cy fans last night, I looked at the rest of their schedule. Kansas. It really may be the only game that can look towards with any confidence. And if they lose to Kansas, it will be awfully enjoyable to sit back and observe the fan base reaction toward the great and all knowing CPR. Will they still love him and will the athletic department put him (not players, HIM) on their football posters? Will he be on the hot seat? I mean, at least he's led his teams to mediocrity consistently since he's been there. This team is basically the first one that is comprised of all his recruits. And it could GASP stink out loud?

And yeah, the stadium sucks. If Jack Trice were alive, he'd probably ask them to remove his name from it until they make it look respectable.

good point on pauw on the poster. pretty egocentric. surprised folly didn't have a picture of himself on it too. and of course pauw is sceaming on said poster. means he really, really cares.

I like a balanced contribution from a Cyclone fan. You should post here more often!

I'm not intending to be a jerk so if it comes off that way I apologize. Because of the need for an improvement in facilities it's a damn good thing so many Cyclone fans were duped into buying season tickets. I honestly can't believe how many Cyclone fans I know that actually bought into the BS Pollard and Rhoads were selling. Improving? Going forward? I don't think so. The lack of talent on defense coupled with the loss of two of the greatest linebackers in Iowa State history should have been a HUGE red flag that this year's team was going to be struggle severly on defense.

My Dad graduated from Iowa State and he's had 6 season tickets for quite awhile. He bumped it up to 8 this year, and I honestly feel bad for him (which is saying something cuz I've always been a diehard Hawk fan). Obviously he can afford it, but what a waste of $. Going to games is a fun experience. You still get to watch football. However, it severly depreciates the fun factor when you know your team is awful.

Now I realize it's not fun to be a fan who isn't passionate about his team. I get that a lot of fans have unrealistic expectations. I'm just surprised by the quantity of Clone fans who had totally unrealistic expectations this year. It's going to be a very long season for Cyclone Nation. Or short depending on how you look at it.

With all due respect, keep your Dad away from the stock market.

I think they have done about all they can to make it into a tough place to play. I understand its a second class venue. But all in all its a nice little stadiam

Lol he's an engineer for IBM so he has their stock and he dabbles in other tech stocks. No idea how well they do for him. He is an investor in my uncles company that just landed a huge contract with Fannie Mae though. Not as dumb as he might sound after buying 8 season tickets to a trainwreck.

Just teasin' ya bro. :p

Iowa State football is akin to Iowa Basketball when it let Tom Davis go...yeah, you wanted to take the "next step" when you got rid of Mac, but the next step can be a slippery mo-fo and leave you in a pile at the bottom of the conference stairwell...is Rhoads their "Football Fran"? I think so...it's just taking longer and they better hope he's not their Stevie Boy following their Chizliter because that'll leave them still looking for a Fran...which won't help get Jack Trice renovated despite this year's ticket sales.

If I lost anyone with that analogy, tough crap...we lost power this morning so I was late getting some coffee in me!

None eh? I would. I like the stadium but its out of date. Unfortunately we arent doing much on the field to warrant the investment.
