My Get Off My Lawn post

Concur. While this year will be a "what could have been", and it'd be damn nice to take a Consistent step forward, all in all, I still feel the pros have outweighed the cons in the last 40 years, as a whole.

I can't blame the folks that are more disenfranchised than myself, and I was more bothered by loses this year.

Sometimes how you win/lose plays into the feel.

Outside of a few posters, I see merit in most viewpoints.

Fandom is unique, varied, euphoric, and excruciating...and as a Hawkeye fan...that can be just during 1 game.

Win the bowl game....

The inherent paradox of fandom is that you're intensely invested in outcomes over which you have no control (unless you're a booster paying recruits under the table.)

It's also important to keep in mind that the other team also has talented D1 athletes and is trying to win the game, and that even the greatest players are human beings, not machines, who sometimes screw up.

I think you should wait until Iowa's bowl game for this year is finished. Then, you can compare 2008 to 2018.

2008 the hawks ended on a great surge, you know how it went, qb starter problems, threw away a game at Pitt, maybe another game with Jake as starter. Could have easily been a 11-2 tea or 10-2

I don't think anyone can reasonably argue that this hasn't been a disappointing season given what was there for the taking. But it wasn't a total collapse like, say, Notre Dame in 2016. Or Iowa in 2012.

Still, a wasted opportunity to be sure.

I wouldn't call that 2012 team a collapse, they just were not very good and we knew that very early on in the season when they lost to Central Michigan. This collapse this year is more comparable to the end of season collapse in 2010 where Iowa got upset against Northwestern and then lost close games versus Ohio State and at Minnesota to end the regular season.

But I don't remember feeling this down on the coaching from that season. TBH I felt that team was a little over rated going in and coaching won us some games and kept us in games that we probably had no business winning. But this years team I'm really down on the coaching, especially on the offensive side of the ball. While I do like how the offense has been opened up, we are not a run first team anymore, but questionable play calling and decisions especially in late game situations has been our down fall.
