My ♥ for Iowa Basketball

I think Keno would be a good hire. My main reason is that it would settle the bad karma that has befallen Iowa Basketball since Mr. Davis was screwed by Bowlsby. I would enjoy the style of basketball and I think Keno would come if asked.

I'm not and have not disputed Pearl, Dixon & Drew would be better hires than Keno. But, I think the odds of any of those 3 coaching at Iowa are long, long, long shots. I think coach K, Self and Williams would be better also, but I'm pretty sure they aren't coming either.

It's not a question on whether there are more proven coaches, it's a question on WHO would be interested in Iowa and from that group, WHO would be the best fit.

My interest in Keno is I believe he's the best fit from the list of candidates that I believe would be interested in the Iowa job.

If Barta can land Pearl, Dixon or Drew, I'll be thrilled. I just don't see it happening...

1. There is no such thing as a Tom Davis "curse" (or bad karma..or whatever you want to call it).

2. To hire a coach to exorcise said "curse" is...no offense...ridiculous.

2boys....I respect your opinion on Keno. I strongly disagree. Hiring Keno would be "settling". Barta doesn't need to "settle" for someone.....he needs to make a pitch at the more qualified candidates. I find it hard to believe that....if the right offer was made...he couldn't land a Pearl, Drew, Dixon, Barbee, etc.

Having an Iowa "tie" should not be a requirement either. Lute and Mr. Davis didn't have Iowa ties. Nor did Ralph Miller if I recall.

He should just hire Dunlap and get it over with!

I agree that Barta should not settle but I don't see how Barbee is a better candidate than Keno. The other three you list I can see the argument but not Barbee.

Barbee has a better track record than Keno.

Track record in what? Top 100 recruits, most wins in a single season, highest NCAA tournament seed, HC experience at a BCS school? Track record is subject but still don't believe he is better than Keno.

My heart for Iowa basketball makes me believe we can do much better than Keno Davis. My head does too.

And I am not at all arguing that we shouldn't pursue a Dixon, Pearl, B. Williams and even Pastner first. But if it came to Barbee or Keno I think we should go the Keno route.

Obviously from my avatar I am in support of Keno but there are other guys I like as well. He is simply the guy I believe would be the best fit for Iowa.

Head coaching record
Season Team Overall Conference Standing Postseason
UTEP (Conference USA) (2006–present)
2006–2007 UTEP 14–17 6–10 10th
2007–2008 UTEP 19–14 8–8 6th CBI First Round
2008–2009 UTEP 23–14 10–6 4th CBI Finals
2009–2010 UTEP 26–6 15-1 1st
UTEP: 82–51 39–25
Total: 82-51

There you go. Each year his record has improved. Keno's has gotten worse each year.

This does not mean Barbee is my choice. I want Dunlap, Pearl, Drew or Dixon. Barbee would be in my next tier, along with Pastner and Forbes.
