My Experience In Madison.

For the first time I went to Mad Town for this game, but didn't actually go to the game. We left at 5:45 am and immediately had a Bucky decal attached to my cheek (took it in stride as I wasn't about to argue with four women)

Waited until Madison before having my first mimosa. Was at Lucky's shortly thereafter and the private tailgate behind Lucky's where burgers and brats were served.

Made it to Buckingham's in time for the game and made the deal that I would do a shot for every badger Touchdown.

Thanks IKM.

But it was still a fun day for the most part. Plenty of Porta paddies in the outdoor part of Buckingham's and the Busch Lattes were going down good.

Other observations.

Few Badger fans expected Bucky to win.

They hate Mertz.

Didn't run into a single billegerent Badger fan, adult or student. Just the normal razzing that I dished back as quickly as I took. Talked to many friendly Badger fans. Maybe things would have been different had the game been 2:30 or a night game but as I pointed out 11am is not too early to get into intoxicated trouble in Madison if one is looking for it.

Saw more Iowa fans up there than ever before. I'll bet the crowds were at least 20% Iowa.

Had a blast despite the outcome.

I have numerous friends who have never been to Kinnick and are dying to get there. Covid rescheduling killed those plans last year. Next year it's happening!

The Bucky decal stayed on my cheek all day. I was determined to be a good sport about it. I didn't need any more shots than the ones I already received.

It is usually a very nice place to go for an away game. There are always going to be a few unruly, drunk, totally stupid people at these types of events or even at a bar on a thursday nite. Beautiful atmosphere around the campus and stadium.
I don't recall ever having a bad time in Madison of course that was back in the late 90's. Hell, I even applied for a job with the city of Madison and Dane County back in 2000. Didn't get either one of them lol.

Last time I was in Madison however was summer 2002, was still living in Dubuque at the time and went over for a weekend with friends. By December 2002 I had new job out of state so left Dubuque and never been back to either city.

Madison is a very Cool town

IKM handed the game to the badgers

That was the first turning point

Other than the opening kickoff

The four badger women sound cool

Dotty Dumpling's Dowrey was originally in DM on Cottage Grove in the Drake area
Jeff Stanley the owner was a friend of mine

LOL one of the four cool women is my wife and the other three, plus another we picked up in Belmont are all neighbors and/or good friends. With the spouses who went, plus one more we picked up in Barneveld, it made a total of ten of us making sure Madison would never be the same again.
