My Aunt goes to all of the PTL games

My aunt hasn't missed a PTL game in about 20 years. Here were some of her general observations:

1. Woodbury is really getting better. Cole has made him his "project" and is helping him improve.
2. May is healthy and looking very aggressive.
3. Gesell is going to be a terrific point guard.
4. Olaseni has improved and will contribute.
5. Basabi seems happy and motivated.
6. This is the nicest, hardest working and most intelligent group of players she has seen at Iowa.
7. She predicts a winning season and we will be "in the mix" for the NCAA tourney.

Nothing earth-shattering here, but her observations about the team as a group were interesting.

I didn't mention Marble, McCabe or White but she said they all look terrific.

Let's hope for an injury-free season without any academic issues. If that happens, this team could really surprise some people. They have depth, talent and a terrific coach.

Is Aunty May a casual observer like most the girlfriends I've ever watched a game with (did i just say that?) or can she grab a piece of chalk and diagram a box and 1?

Just wondering how deeply she understands the game.

Really wonder if Cole is looking to become a coach when he's done playing. It appears as if Woodbury may be a "gym rat"- hungry to improve. Nice to see player development again.

Great to hear everything but particularly #s 6-7.

He needs to follow White around then.

Its also a case of Woodbury being allot better than people understood. Way to much overreaction to his first couple PTL games just like people overreacted to Aaron Whites first few games last year.

You don't win MVP of an event the caliber he did by accident.

The "overreaction" occurred with his recruiting, not with his average play in the PTL.

now that is a dedicated Hawkeye fan, thanks

My favorite part: "Basabi seems happy..."

That also seemed peculiar to me. Of course, if you can't trust some guy's second hand account of some other guy's mood one night, what can you trust?

She's been to all the PTL games over 20 years, I'd say she probably has a decent grasp of things. Or at least, a good point of reference to compare past years.

Yes, Woodbury could end up being the next Brommer but we will always remember that Woodbury chose Iowa over North Carolina.

I doubt Woody becomes the next Brommer. He can still miss the over on the 1.5 dunk betting line and have a fine career at Iowa. The game isn't really all about dunking (even when you are 7 feet tall).

She is a very smart lady. Almost 90 years old. She is a big fan of coach Fran and the players he is bringing in.

This team is a close-knit family, very different from past coaches. I think the upside for Iowa BB is tremendous.
