He earned the minutes.Great question and I was wondering the same thing. Did he earn the minutes or was it because they literally had no one else?

Agreed. He's played well enough this year to probably be recruited by D-1 mid-majors like UNI if he wants more playing time. I'd sure recruit him at this point: smart, usually in the right place, a decent defender, can score around the rim, hustles his ass off.Fran back or not, we have no idea what this roster is going to look like next year. Personally, I am okay with Mulvey sticking around if he wants to stick around. I think he would be a great bridge guy moving forward.
He will be a 8 and 4 guy(points and rebounds) being a starter playing 20 minutes a game next year. No one will confuse him with Luka Garza, but we all can see him as a positive contributor next year, regardless of who the coach is.
After hearing from Fran postgame, suspect it was a bit of all those things.Possibly. They either needed his strength on the defensive end due to matchup, started playing way better in practice, a guard had a minor injury, was sending a message to other guards, or what you mentioned. Can't think of any other reason to change his minutes that drastically.
It seems like it's more common for a bench big to out of nowhere have a really good year than it is for a guard to do it. Mulvey moves really well for his size. If a guy like that just improves a little at basketball he would be way better on the court.Agreed. Riley came in a year early at the age of 17 IIRC. I has taken him a while to improve. Like a lot of bigs, he is gaining traction as he gets more experience. He could have a breakout year next year.
Yeah was tough to not notice that. Thelwell clearly is hurt and not himself he only played like 15 mins. Saydou to me is a 3 that we sometimes put at the 4 and he's not cut out for that. But he's not a good enough shooter or skilled enough to play the 3 it seems like for big mins. There's certain matchups with other teams he can do well with then others it seems like.Traore and Thelwell sure didn't play alot after starting the game!
Roster next year? 2 guys who are **** stars, one of whom is already with the team, Isaiah Johnson-Arigu)1 other recruit is a ***star.
Pryce, Brock, Josh, Seydou, Cooper, Ladji, Owen, Chris Tadjo, Riley, Carter.
My total = 13. I doubt we lose anyone, but I know it can happen.
Josh, Riley, and Carter are the only seniors next year. That, my friend, is a big deal.
There are a couple of walk on’s.
Additional: Fran and his staff. The only way Fran leaves with this crew in the wings is if he gets fired. Nope. Ain’t gonna happen. New AD knows damn well the risks are too high.
Saydou is an effort guy who can really affect the game when he's high energy. I'm guessing he has an issue playing consistently with energy and Fran has discussed it with him. That's just a guess tho.Yeah was tough to not notice that. Thelwell clearly is hurt and not himself he only played like 15 mins.
