MSU thoughts

After a lack luster performance at Purdue, I felt that tonight the Hawkeyes wrestled with perhaps more urgency than they had in any of their other duals this year. Gilman, St John, and Meyer in particular impressed me tonight. EL and Telford continued to disappoint. When the massive crowd of 6600 was calling for stalling to be called on the MSU 84lber in the 3rd period, what was EL doing? Nothing but laying on top. We had several wrestlers tonight that when their opponents got wore down, they took them to the wood shed and scored bonus points. For what ever reason, El just couldn't do it tonight. As for Telford, please open up your offense at some point and take a legit shot. I realize that we were not wrestling PSU, MN, or Okie St., but we did what we were supposed to and dominated. In my opinion prob the best team effort in a dual this year.

You weren't impressed with Moore. Turning his opponent twice, second time getting the fall. Tough critic!!!!

The only thing I'll offer for EL is that he tweaked his knee and appeared to be in pain early in the match. His adrenaline was likely carrying him through until the 3rd period, and it might have been hard for him to push and maneuver. And this is coming from a huge EL critic. Telford's guy is pretty good, and HWTs are a different animal so I wouldn't get too excited about him.

I will also offer that MSU was one of the worst teams I'd seen in a long time. Gassing half way through matches, zero fight...that was embarrassing to watch. Whoever the fish was that Meyer wrestled put out zero effort. It's a good thing he didn't see Evans or the kid would be walking around with one arm today.

Ironside said on the radio after the meet that it was the best he'd seen Lofthouse wrestle. Overall my thoughts on the MSU dual is that MSU is awful.

agree that msu was awful last night.

but where does all the great HS talent from Michigan go? Michigan gets some, but they are ranked 15/16 - and they got top 5 recruiting classes recently for a few years (i might be wrong there).
