MSU loss sucked...but

And any of the top 5 teams from that year would destroy any of the teams in the Big 10 this year.

no doubt about it. the big ten was crazy good in that era. this current team and the current big 10 couldn't hold that era's you know what.

enjoy the ride. iowa hasn't been relevant since the TD era. to 'quit' on a team who is bringing Iowa back to relevancy is childish and short-sighted at best.

But that point is totally irrelevant. We can only play the teams on our schedule this year. This isn't 1986, and if it was, we might make more free throws :)

If this were '86 then the Hawks would win the B1G going away because the football that Wisky and MSU play would not fly.

We also would be playing every team twice and Wisconsin and Penn State would not be on our conference schedule. Also, the home crowd would rise to its feet and roar if Bart Casey entered the game in mop up duty.

That loss sucked big time...heck even my 11 year old daughter was still stinging over it yesterday and she doesn't really follow the team all that much...but we watched that game as a family and my two girls were down on the floor with me before the last shot in anticipation...laughing and enjoying a good family memory together..and then the miss.

Whew...she'll for sure remember that now given the 'pain' associated with it. But alas, we all must forge on.

Seeing Wisconsin lose at home to Northwestern just slapped me out of a funk.

Iowa still has a very good basketball team. They are a top 20 team and they can still get better this season. For those who have given up or 'are done', that's a bit much don't you think?

Iowa athletics are a diversion from the realities of life we all have...as are all sports. This Iowa basketball team is a welcome diversion from one of the most brutal winters in decades...can you imagine this winter with Todd Lickliter at the helm?

I can, because that crap happened less than four years ago...less than four years ago Iowa was losing back to back games to Minnesota and Wisconsin by all time, hundred-plus year series history largest margins.

The loss stunk and it stung....but good grief, are memories really that short? And it's college hoops...what we are watching right now is the journey, but this sport is all about the destination and that destination is March

Great post JD. I, too, happened to watch the game with the family and I think I started to scare my wife. She said she had never ever seen me as animated as I was during an Iowa basketball game......we're back baby.

The '86/'87 team didn't even win the Big 10. People are crazy.

Great point and there have been a ton of B1G teams reach the Final Four who did not win the conference or BTT. Sometimes progress is 2 steps forward and 1 back and as long as the general trend is still forward that is a good thing. I'd rather see us peak at the end of the year.
