MSU cancels spring ball

Hawks spring game is already just a practice instead of a scrimmage and it’s not even on tv anymore.
BTN really drops the ball on these. They need to show em all. Maybe not all can be live since some overlap. But my gosh what the hell else do they have to show? Softball? Give me a break. Absolutely nothing gets more ratings then football. Send BTN folks out to interview coaches & players and make it a thing. I'd like to think I wouldn't be the only one that'd be into that.

These practices/games give fans a chance to see the next yrs team (pre spring portal window anyway) Gives football fans a spring fix even if it's just a small taste.

I used to go every year, last one I went to was 2022 which was long after they did away with the scrimmage format.

What they do now wouldn't be able to be put on TV, there's really no scrimmaging per se or anything that TV commentators could talk about, it's just a practice. The offense runs a few plays in rotation and they don't move the LOS, etc. It's all 100% scripted like a practice. One end of the field they're doing drills and one end they're doing some live plays. Kickers will come on from different distances and they'll do a bunch of kicks in a row from the same spot.

Been several years since they had an actual scrimmage.

Im intregued with the idea of having another school as a scrimage partner. I remember how the cowboys and the raiders used to do this in the summer. Like a week or two long enggaement.

Mizzou or KSU might be a good partner. Close / non-con. But in chosing a partner seems you want a team that is somewhat similar in talent level. That is to say UGA or OSU would not be a good scrimage partner for Iowa.

Dieon is right. The Schools have been missing out on an obvious revenue stream for years, Spring football.

The major schools should all schedule simulated games/scrimmages with FCS programs like UNI. Schedule on a Saturday in late April, let fans tailgate, and it would sell out and be televised. Give UNI a million bucks for attending to fund their program for a year, and bank the rest for NIL. Then you could prohibit scheduling any cupcakes in the Fall. Expand the pie. Everyone is happy.
