Move Iowa State game to end of year?

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but does anyone know why the Ia St game is played early in the season, rather than at the end like many traditional rivalries?
I would prefer to have it be the end of the season and think it would make for a great Thanksgiving holiday weekend game every year.

I like Nebraska Thanksgiving weekend. I want that game to really develop into a great rivalry. It's not there yet, but it has potential. It's one of those things that takes time. A win in Lincoln this year would help.

Kill it with Fire!
And horsewhip anyone that thinks we should play ISU under equal terms until they come to their senses

Of course I'm not actually advocating violence
Unless it would work...

I really liked the end of year game in 2001. Not how it ended up, mind you, but it was pretty cool having it at the end of the year. Years ago, I would have been all for it. But now that we have Nebby in the B1G and have developed a semi-rivalry on the Friday after Thanksgiving, no way I want to give that up to have ISU at the end of the year.

IMHO....NEVER should isu be the last game. The last game of season should be reserved for something really important, as in playing for conference and/or a division title........not just a bragging rights game that has no relevance on our conference status.

Yeah, Iowa State has less depth and after a regular seasons worth of wear and tear their talent level is lower at the end than it is in September.

Back when the BigTen had 11 teams, and ended its season the week before thanksgiving, and had no CCG, this idea might have made sense. Now it makes no longer makes sense.

How about moving it to the end of the century instead.

Its a matter of time before Texas gets back on its feet and either goes independent or joins a better conference for more cash. Then ISU can lose to MAC schools all season long.

Are you crazy? A conference rivalry game at the end is so much more important than a non-conference game. That is just no place for a non-conference game anymore with battling for a conference title game or trying to position for a spot in the playoff system, if a team happens to be a contender a specific year.

Playing it on Thanksgiving weekend would make them think they're relevant. They're delusional enough.

Id say move it to non existence.

I second that. How many consecutive years have we played these buffoons - 37? 38? That's MORE than long enough. I have NEVER been for this series because it does nothing for the University of Iowa football program whatsoever. It's the only way Iowa State can sell season tickets. Iowa is under no obligation to subsidize that school's football program. And I'm tired of the worn out arguments that the game is somehow "good for the state" (yeah - Iowa State) or that all this money "stays in the state." Why not schedule some mid-range PAC 12 or SEC teams?

This Iowa State series is as stale as a 10-yr old loaf of bread.

No, way would I want to see that game at the end of the year. Nothing on this earth would make those clowns happier than a pig in **** then to have a one, two, or three loss Iowa team come to town.

If the Clowns got the win they'd be acting like they just won the National Championship.

Heck no on so many levels. They aren't in our conference. They would like to be but they aren't and never will be. Late season games are conference games. Also, since the ISU game is the biggest tailgate game with so many extra people coming in whether here or there, the nicest weather is going to be in September, not Thanksgiving or early December.

ISU used to suggest changing the date to late season when we were kicking their *** every year at the beginning of the season as somehow that made a big difference.

Never happen. Neither side would want it now either.

the reason, i think, that many of these rivalry games are at the end of the year is due to them still being 'conference games'.....ucla/usc, alabama/auburn, etc.

finishing the conference strong is way more important than playing these clownz, imo.

and, like someone else stated - why give these clownz any relevance in playing a TG day game? Who would you rather play and beat that day? Clownz, or Huskers? i know my answer.

I also was at the 2001 game it was actually pretty cool except for the outcome and the circumstances on why the game was moved. I for one rather leave the game where it is. I know Nebraska looks down on us the way we look down on ISU, but as DJL pointed out I would like to build the Nebraska game into a rivalry. Just can't have epic meltdowns like last year.

Playing a non-conf game to end the year would be terrible. Playing for the division title on the last day is so much more important than a non-con game.

Plus, you'd have to find some other B1G team willing to do the same, which probably won't happen.

Chance of happening: zero point zero zero.

It doesn't matter. It's a crappy, forced-upon-us game either way. If those fools would have decent seasons, it might mean something. But they never do. All they can do is play the role of spoiler.
