most thought hawks would beat Isu in 2014

I think the hawks should win big this saturday and I almost think the hawks will win by 20 plus. but I thought they should have won in 2014 and was shocked by the loss. so I hate to read people say we are going to kill them.

is there a Isu super bowl jinx with KF and this series? there have been more than several surprising losses.

You know it. I thought there was no way they could lose in 2014. Never know what to expect from this game, other than ISU usually plays better than they do in every other game on their schedule.

That game was a fluke. The clowns missed the field goal but got 2 tries at it because of a last second time out. The clowns also benefited from a few terrible calls. One of thier td receptions touched the ground first, and there was a phantom targeting call that extended another clown drive resulting in more points. This year Iowa also has a better more complete team. These circumstances are completely different this year. Iowa will win big!

Yes, they once again have us right where they want us. Everyone in the world gives them no chance. This game now worries me even more.

Based on both opening games what makes you think we will win big, like 20 plus? We normally do not blow out UNI and have a tough time beating them also. We gave up 25 first downs and 400+ yards of offense to Miami of Ohio. Without those turnovers and a gifted fumble reversal to incomplete pas call we are looking at a 1 score game. Miami fumbled at our 5 yard line. Those two plays are 14 points right there.

This same program who was down 6 players and was beaten by Wisky 54-0 last year. Yes 54 to zip. That QB that torched us threw 8 TDs to 13 picks last year. If UNI plays Miami of Ohio it's probably a close game.

We had better not come out with this 1980's attitude of an easy, 20 point victory or we are in for another shocking 2014 loss. Yes a loss to a 2 win ISU outfit that beat no other power 5 teams and got torched by many and we could not run the ball a lick on them.

Keep in mind we have all the pressure, they have 17 years worth of game film and they have absolutely nothing to lose now.

This isn't last year, and Bahl will not have the kind of year he did last year, he is not longer an inexperienced Fr. he looked much, much better than that.

Also It always make me laugh when people say, well if only this play didn't happen or that play didn't happen. Well guess what they did, and they happened for a reason (players make plays). It would be like saying if you just take away McCaffery's Td reception, Punt return, and the pick 6 then we are in that game. Well guess what you can't take 3 freaking huge plays from a game.

Miami was never in that game Saturday. We were up 21-0, we were up 38-7 at half, and 35-7 at one point. The game was effectively over at that point, and Iowa and KF treated it as such. The game was never ever close or competitive in any way shape or form.

Explain 2014 to me then.

Explain 2014 to me then.

ISU usually plays Iowa well, that explains 2014. ISU won the TO battle, and they beat us.

Explain to me what 2014 has to do with this years team, or heck even last years team? Over the course of the 17 years that KF has struggled with ISU, when Iowa beats ISU it is usually by a pretty good margin. Also most times Iowa loses to ISU, they struggle that season. 2014 was a struggle and disappointment with only 7 wins. Yet once again that has nothing to do with this year.

Iowa can lose any game, and can certainly lose to ISU. I would be shocked if this group of low talent, low discipline players and coaches come into Kinnick and leave with a W.

Kirk, P. Parker, and the defense as a whole aren't happy about the D's performance Saturday I'm sure. They'll play better this Saturday which is bad news for ISU.

I agree with everything you stated. I just think that this year will be different. It matters who is on the field and we have CJ. He is 14-2 as a starter. I will let that ride for at least the next few games. And, with AW really taking the prominent rb role, he gives us the break away we haven't had. As much as I liked Canzeri, he lost a step and lateral movement, with his knee injury. Plus, I think we're all waiting for the inevitable shoe to drop because we typically fold like a tent under ferentz when we are favored going into a season. I feel this will be a win.

I agree with you that this game is a barometer game for us. With the exception of 2002 when we lose home or away we usually go onto to have a mediocre season.

Your last paragraph was the exact setup for 2014. Tell me that was a high talented, well disciplined group? An ISU team that NDSU ran all over in Ames and we turn around with an OLine featuring Schreff, Blythe & Walsh and put up 129 yards on 44 carries (2.9 avg). 2 of those lineman are on NFL rosters right now. We lost the TO battle a by a whopping margin of 1-0. That ISU team lost to every other power 5 team on their schedule including a Kansas team that is considered one of the bottom 5 in the nation, maybe the worst.

There is absolutely zero explanation for 2014 and until we prove that we can go out and dominate them when we should I will remain skeptical. We are only 1 good season removed from that debacle of all debacles and our first showing defensively against the juggernaut of Miami of Ohio was not impressive in the least.

Losing a 1st team all big 10 LB and potential all American early in the 1st game of the season is going to lead to some defensive adversity. Other than that I think we are fine. This game most likely will be closer than it should based on passing game mismatches but the hawks will "pull away" to win by 10-14. There are enough kids on the cyclones side of things that do drink the koolaid of making this a cyclone state. Hawks by 14 but it will feel like a game most of the day.

The explanation for 2014 is we were a very average team. Listen there might be 1 year in the last 15 that ISU was actually the better team (2012). The rest of the time it is just a bad ISU team beating an avg. Iowa team. When Iowa is a good team ISU doesn't fare well against Iowa (2002 is the lone exception, and that ISU team was actually pretty good).

So my confidence is more based in how good I think Iowa is, rather than what ISU is (typically a bad team).

They are soooo bad. Even if they win Saturday at most they win 3 games this year. The losses to ISU have been the most mind boggling, frustrating thing of the KF era.

Unless there are a bunch of injuries/suspensions between now and kickoff a loss will be unacceptable. MC needs at least another year probably 2 years to make ISU decent.

I feel like this Iowa team has a bigger chip on its shoulder than others that have walked into the Cyclone game complacently. This team has the pressure of going 12-0 and then crapping the bed in the B1G title game and the Rose Bowl riding on them. They haven't forgotten that. Heck, Desmond King said that's why he came back -- unfinished business. They won't sleep through this and the Hawkeyes are most definitely the better team.

We lost that game in 2014 after Jake threw that pic. After that he could not make any play with any kind of confidence. He was just out there doing nothing. Our coaches blew it, when they didn't replace him when it was clear he had a problem. They should have put in the talented CJ B.
The coaches lost 2014 game for us. They should've replaced Jake. And finally, Kirk calling that stupid time out to try to ice the kicker after he already kicked.? That was the dumbest move he made all day.....gave him a free practice shot. And of course he missed the practice shot. But made the game winner.

It's not King I'm worried about, it's the other side. And before we completely toss Mabin under the bus, it wasn't all on him, the over-the-top help was less than stellar. Basically, communication among the D was not good. It better improve in a hurry
