Don't overlook David Cutcliffe at Duke. He makes $1.58 million and his record at Duke is
15-31. He makes/made more than the following coaches:
Mike Stoops-Arizona
Dennis Erickson-Arizona St.
Chris Petersen-Boise St.
Ron Zook-Illinios
Tommy Tuberville-Texas Tech
He almost made as much as:
Mark Dantonio-Mich. St.
Brett Bielema-Wisconsin
He was a finalist for the Tennesse job after the Lane Kiffin debacle so maybe he leveraged that situation to increase his salary? Sound familiar?
I for one never believed KF was seriously interested in the NFL. I don't think he would have fared well with the media scrutiny, etc. Interestingly, I don't believe he would have fared well in the SEC either for different reasons. Read the following from Wikipedia regarding Cutliffe's career at Ole Miss.
Head coaching
On December 2, 1998, Cutcliffe was hired as the head football coach at Ole Miss. Cutcliffe had success at Ole Miss, where he recruited Eli Manning, son of Ole Miss player Archie Manning, to play quarterback. In 2003, Cutcliffe tied LSU for the West Division title and a win in the Cotton Bowl Classic.
Cutcliffe was fired by Ole Miss's Athletic Director Pete Boone in December 2004 after his only losing season at Ole Miss. Boone had asked Cutcliffe to provide a detailed plan for improving the program, specifically the defense and recruiting, as well as fire some assistant coaches, but Cutcliffe refused to fire any staff members, and was subsequently fired along with his assistants.[3]
You could make a case that all three of North Carolina's Triad Coaches are overpaid:
Butch Davis-UNC, $1.75mil
Tom O'Brien-NC St., $1.5mil
and Cutcliffe
So for what it is worth my list would be:
1. Turner Gill- Kansas. $2.1mil
2. Joker
Phillips- Kentucky. $1.7mil
3. David Cutcliffe- Duke. $1.58mil
4. June Jones- SMU. $2.2mil
5. Kirk Ferentz- Iowa. $3.78mil
Just curious. KF has the highest amount of anyone for "Maximum Bonus" at $1.75mil.
Can anyone explain what this is for or what it means?
Finally, Todd Lickliter still has the state's 4th highest salary and most likely will again in 2012.
The UI bought out Lickliter's contract for $2.4 million, to be paid in three installments, the first of which was made 30 days after he was fired. A second installment was paid June 30. The final payment will be paid in June 2012, which will make him one of the state's top earners again next year.
Below are the top 10 highest-paid state employees for Fiscal 2011:
