He's a very versatile athlete. Iowa's coaches asked him whether he wanted to play safety or WR. He said he wanted the ball in his hands on offense cause he thinks he has big play ability. The Iowa coaches agreed and are bringing him in as a WR. This worked out well for the Hawks as they were then able to go out and get 2 higher rated safeties in Delano Hill and Solomon Warfield. He was new to the camp scene as a junior but did turn some heads. He was described as having good overall speed and a good knowledge of the game.

Herby, why is he the MOST interesting recruit? Can you expand on that for me please?

Delano and Solomon are my two most interesting recruits. Allen Treui over on Scout said that Delano Hill was the type of athlete that you can build a defense around.

Yeah, Delano ripped it up at the Nike camp and caught the eyes of a lot of schools after he already committed. His commitment has definitely been tested as schools have come for him. Thankfully, the Hawks already had a couple of his high school teammates here in Laron Taylor and Ruben Lile. I think that played a factor. Solomon looks like a good one as well. The Hawks need some serious upgrades at the safety positions. Miller and Donatell just didn't match up talent wise on many instances last year. I'm intrigued by Law and Lile though.

his versatility is what makes him interesting, this is the type of playmaker Iowa needs going forward. this is the type of RECRUIT that Fran is getting, the type that can play multiple positions

Gotcha, thanks. He does seem to be a jack of all trades. Will Kirk utilize this though? Probably not.

Yeah, if he played QB, RB, WR and defense then he is definitely a jack of all trades.

The one thing I don't like about the staff is they take too long to figure out which position is better for the player. I don't know if this is an evaluation thing or what but if they can somehow figure sooner to give the player time to get that position. Maybe it is on the player, maybe not.

For example the true freshman Reese Fleming Jr. he started out as a D.B. during recruiting, then right before he came to campus they switched him to WR. Rumor is he wasn't taking to WR well because he didn't really play that position before so halfway through the season he is back at DB.

He lost a months of practice at DB because he MIGHT have been better at WR and he wasn't.

when you look at who Iowa has targeted in this class in GD's 1st class as the OC, I am pretty sure they will be.
you have to start somewhere
this also says alot about getting JUCO WR Powell, quick speedy players

You have a great point, you do have to start somewhere but I think with 3 back to back disappointing seasons fans seem to be a little less interested in giving these new recruits time to develop and contribute.

Too many extremes, there are fans who think Iowa should be getting 4* - 5* players and if only KF and staff got their heads out of their butts they would reload instead of rebuild. Then there are people who say, we aren't a dog crap team, it could be worse, remember the 70's!

Recruit well, then develop the players quicker or lose. We saw what happened this season when the players aren't developing fast enough.

putting players in a position where they can succeed is a trademark of KF and his staff
McNutt from QB to WR then getting drafted by the Eagles
is the most current player
but just like with Roth he wanted to play LB'r but KF wanted him at DE, so KF let him stay at LB'R til Roth figured out that KF was right about where he should play,
its not that KF doesn't figure it out soon enough, its that he lets the kid make up their own mind 1st.
Fleming was listed as a 4* DB by ESPN, BUT KF felt his speed would be better served at WR, but ultimately Fleming wanted to go back to DB, this did not set the kid back,, and if I recall posters were very excited about his speed being used at WR.;
and now some of you same posters are claiming KF set him back by not knowing where to play. its amazing about the ways you can find for blaming KF for everything

I can't give you Roth and McNutt, but I think there are way more guys who they flip/flopped around and it did slow their progress.

You personally don't know if Fleming being put at DB, then WR then back to DB slowed him or not. Really, I don't know either. I am just saying that I personally don't like the flip flopping of players and positions. Yes, it works out, SOMETIMES.

Edds from TE to LEO tutned out just fine
Gallery from TE to OT 2ND pick in the NFL Draft
Reiff from DE to LT 1st round pick
Greenway was a jack of all trades for his school, did pretty good at LB'R where KF had him play
Hitchen from RB in HS to Safety then WLB
Hyde from QB in HS to DB, probably gets drafted in spring.
more often than not players that switch under KF turn out to be pretty good

So what position do you have on the staff? Oh, your not on the staff? Ok who do you know personally on the staff that tells you about all the position switches? Because I am 100% sure if you aren't on the staff or know anyone on the staff who gives you every single detail you can't say that they turn out more often than not.

You have to except their aren't things you don't know by reading articles online or watching the depth charts or following recruiting. KF is one of the most tight lipped coaches in football he doesn't give jack squat in interviews so where, oh where are you getting all these facts?

RELAX, I don't care what your response is you can quote play stats/measurables all you don't know anymore than anyone else but you post everything like it is fact.

only your hatred of KF blinds you to what has occurred, its out there for anyone to see. all you have to do is look at what they played in HS, then see where they ended up
Roth was a 4* LB'R out of HS, even he ended up saying in a interview that he should have Listened to KF out of HS, there is a magazine Isubscribe to, that covers the Hawks and provide a complete Bio of each commit that signs, its amazing as to what you can learn simply by reading.
I could care less if you believe it or not.. facts are facts and you're not believing it, doesn't change the facts

You know that works both ways right? Personally, I believe your love for KF is blinding you. I truly don't hate KF or anything even close to that. Look at my username. I've even been on record saying I will support KF and this staff for at least a few years as they get their **** together. Haters gonna hate. However, I'm not a hater so you can't pull the "you're just blinded by your hatred" card.

With that being said, I agree with Dave regarding getting players in their spots early. When you change spots, especially offense to defense, you have to relearn an entire playbook and work your way up from the bottom. In college, this ain't an easy task with class outside of practice. Knowing the playbook, in detail, takes time. When you know the playbook you're able to play with confidence and just let your natural/physical abilities shine, which is when you see players play their best football. KF always talks about confidence when Dallas Clark or Greenway get brought up. I think it's something he holds as an important quality when evaluating talent.

Now I guarantee the coaches know infinitely more than any of us, or any magazine or article you could read. I trust their decisions to move players around if they feel their natural abilities would be better somewhere else. I just ask they don't wait too long as to impede development (which is different for every person) in their final position.

I'm curious if switching roles back and forth like Flemming did can also help a bit.. You get to see things from a different perspective at least.

You totally missed my point, which doesn't surpise me at all. You act like you know everyone one of these players and coaches personally and are part of their develop. The fact is you take information from articles and form an opinion but that is all it is an "OPINION".

Yes, I don't think KF is going to turn things around, that is my opinion but I don't call people out for disagreeing with me like you do.

Fact reminds that you don't know what you are talking about, you quote measurables and articles and that is it you don't know them, you don't know if or how they are going to work out as players on the field. At least I am adult enough to admit that these are opinions instead of fact like you.

Grow up, be an adult and allow others to have an opinion.
