Most Interesting BTN Preview Quote

Can't believe there isn't more chat on this show yet tonight.
First off, that show is great and done exceptionally well. I loved the interview with Christian Ballard. Sounded like a lot of positives coming from the observation of the offensive line as well.
What had me most intrigued though was the comment during the 'closing arguments' which was that Iowa may have "the best kicking game of all the contending teams." We know that we have a stellar punter, but has Murry/Mossbrucker made those kinds of strides? The inconsistent kicking game has been one of my biggest concerns, but if that could be a strength as opposed to a roller coaster, what an asset that would be.

I'm thinking it's not so much that Iowa's FG unit has gotten that much better as it is that it's better than Ohio State's (turning to Barclay full-time this year), Wisconsin's (Philip Welch, 17-24 last year), and Penn State's (Collin Wagner was 15-22 last year). Demos from Northwestern is probably the best kicker in the BT, but Northwestern is not considered a contender for the conference crown.

I don't get the Demos love. I think Murray had more fgs,and just as good a percentage, plus under pressure,in the bowl, Demos had a bad day.

I like that Ballard got a little pub in this show. Adrian and Klug got the Big Ten luncheon and Ballard, also a senior, seems to get lost in the shuffle a bit. He was a solid interview...better spoken than Klug, imo.

Ricky and KF did fine also. Love that Griffin is so sold on our o-line. Sounds like he came in as a skeptic, and left as a convert...I also thought they looked decent in those drills. Mike Daniels vs James Ferentz was a brawl...Mikey will teach James a lot.

Zuvesics is a kid no one talked about...I doubt they know how to pronounce his name at the BTN. If he can come thru...we should be ok.

To be honest about Demos, he may have had a similar %. But few kickers had as high of a percentage as Murray and looked as bad doing it. You held your breath everytime out, because he BARELY kept some of those liners/shanks high/straight enough to go in. He wasn't as good as his percentage might imply.

I think maybe this is my issue. I can't honesty recall a lot of misses, yes there were some, but I always cringe at how they look, even the PATs. But I guess it's not a beauty contest.

TV and media only look at stats, not how the kicks looked. Donahue is without doubt, one of, if not, the best punter in league. Murray's stats were good and people still think of PSU in 2008 for results. Iowa always has one of best kick and punt coverage teams. That is basis for their statements.

Hopefully, Murray and Mossbrucker can continue to put ball between uprights on regular basis.

Yes, they only look at stats, which is why we "have the best kicking game of all the contenders". But that doesn't change the fact that Murray really wasn't as good as his % would suggest.

Yea. That statement about the kickers really caught me off guard as well. That one really came form left field in my book. I had to play it back to make sure I actually heard it correctly. I am surprised they did not mention Donohue's impact on the Iowa team. I wished they would have. Many people overlook how a punter can impact the field position.
